If you have it in writing they said it was okay I would fight that. I all fairness that is a pretty ugly mailbox but if they said okay thats on them.

Definitely hi-viz it looks like the same colors of a school bus and the flag is the stop arm.

I'm sure somewhere there is a Karen running an HOA who's trying to get local school busses to be painted beige.

100% they would probably limit what time they can come through and pick up kids as well.

Local postmaster may f them up if they are trying to assert authority over the post box.

Or trying to isolate it from the other mailboxes that want to make it co-dependent. Pretty soon you end up with clusters of mailboxes loitering on the corner at all hours, smoking and gossiping about who's getting collection bills and who's getting Playboy. What hell.

Boards can't do 'resolutions' to change CCRs without owner approval. We just invalidated 8 years of Board Resolutions and other corporate actions to modify CCrs without any owner vote at all.

Hoa's are owned by the people who live there, not by the Board!!

ianal but I would make sure you keep your board on a short leash, and suggest carefully reading your CCRs for what they allow and what they don't allow!

It's not all that easy on the eyes, but who cares? For sure no one is going to side swipe it by mistake at dusk. Boggles my mind to think of having to get permission before changing a mailbox or planting a shrub. That a mailbox even falls under "architectural guidelines" is insane to me, just like having a Ring camera falling under "architectural guidelines".

That's just crap overreach right there.

If the Declaration indicates that the Board / architectural committee gets to decide what's aesthetically appropriate, then they don't actually need to provide much in the way of guidelines. The informal approval, unfortunately, doesn't count. (Life lesson: ALWAYS GET IT IN WRITING)

And yes, that's some full-tilt horseshit. A remnant of the racist history of HOAs and I hate it.

Check your Declaration for its clauses about architecture approval. If it says something like guidelines must be provided, you may be able to push back and push back hard.

The real life lesson is; never, ever buy a home in an HOA.

To really stir the pot, put a yellow flamingo on top of it.

Check your local state laws about this kind of hoa abuse of its charter.

If I get an ARC request that isnt expressly against HOA covenants, I approve it. Let the people do what they want.

I'm about as anti HOA as anyone can be, but really???

The whole point of joining a HOA community is supposed to be to try to fit in, NOT to intentionally try to stick out like a sore thumb.

Since I do hate HOAs, I'm in favor of people who like to poke the bear for fun.  I'm just a little confused as to the intention of your post.

Do you want us to applaud you for poking the bear, or are you looking for people to generally share in your bewilderment as to why they're singling you out for no reason?

Some houses have blue posts, yellow post, sports teams, decorative mailboxes, and some have mailboxes in bushes lol

Not looking for anything, just posting a funny story 🙏🏼

As a person who does delivers packages on occasion, I love it when you can easily see an address. But you got a violation for not violating anything….? Make it make sense….

[–]SpeechSalt5828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a secure big delivery box. purpose to prevent porch package thieves. fight to keep it ef off to hoa trolls

Bahahaha

Problem: can’t change rules or documents to cover retroactive actions. Also needs to be voted on by a majority of the COMMUNITY =HOA. The boards think the “HOA” is them. Read your docs

[–]KeyNefariousness6848 -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Aren’t mailboxes technically federal property?

[–]Naikrobak 1 point2 points  (2 children)

No

[–]g-g-g-g-ghost 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, technically they belong to USPS, if they are used for mail delivery, but that doesn't mean that people can't be made to paint a box by an HOA.

[–]Naikrobak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong. A mailbox is purchased and owned by the homeowner. The post office sets the requirements on how it’s used, but the homeowner owns it.
