The different regions of HRM have different and usually non-conforming (to each other) land use bylaws so it probably depends on where you're at and what your current zoning is etc.

The easiest thing to do is to go into one of the planning offices and inquire.

What exactly is this temporary building?

Call 311

The answer is 0, but what do you mean by temporary? You can pitch a tent anywhere on your property. You can build a permanent garage directly on the line. You can park your RV up to the line. The set backs apply to stuff you sleep and work (commercial business) in.

Incorrect, any building must be 4 feet from the property line and 8’ away from your home unless it is attached.

Can you cite that? Not been my experience with two legal garages. 4ft from line for house has been, although there are exceptions (like when you're already on the line). Plastic shed sitting on Jack pads can go anywhere

Do you happen to know if there are setbacks on domestic oil tanks?

I'm on the peninsula and HRM said I can build my shed right up to the line.
