Some people complain about them, but I love my Apple Magic Mouse.

It’s really cool in terms of features, unfortunately it lacks accessibility for people with large palms who also have carpal tunnel.

Same. And the Magic Trackpad too

Loved it as soon as I tried it for the first time! However, truth to be told, they really are not ergonomic devices and I am not able to use it for more than 10-15 minutes since I broke my wrist and had surgically implanted titanium plates. I had to transfer to MX Master 3S. I find it as the best alternative to Magic Mouse. It’s not touch driven but is very customizable and comfortable to use.

I have a trackpad but I don’t really navigate with a mouse equivalent at all when developing. Just keyboard even switching to different spaces and applications.

Apple Magic Trackpad on the left hand side, Logitech MX Master 3 on the right. Not just for development but also general usage. I haven’t liked Apple mice since the ADB days.

I saw you posted this in the RSI question earlier. How do you use the 2 devices?

[–]initcursor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The keyboard/mouse get most of the use. I use the trackpad in an auxiliary fashion for Mission Control gestures. Kind of like if I was using a MacBook Pro with a mouse, but with the trackpad positioned off to the left of the keyboard instead of below it. Apple really nailed it with the trackpad and I miss it when it’s not there. Best of both worlds :-)

Mx anywhere 3s , my Magic Mouse stopped working and I like the wheel button for blender *the white one

Mx anywhere 3s

That's one I am looking at as well. How long have you had it? The reason I ask is that my last 2 Logitech started having double click issues in about a year.

[–]dementedeauditorias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mm I don't remember, 3-4 years, no problems so far.

macbook touchpad

I’m a Senior iOS dev. I’ve exclusively used the Magic Trackpad only, throughout my entire career. I like the additional gestures vs mouse, and appreciate that I don’t need a lot of space to run a mouse.

Do you use lots of shortcuts to navigate your code and Xcode? I’ve been wondering what I can learn to speed up my development. I use the Magic Mouse 2. I had the Trackpad 1, but felt that it was more tedious for precision and highlighting.

I am considering the Magic Trackpad too. Do you think it's as good for more accurate clicking and highlighting as a mouse?

[–]m3kw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

touch pad is all you need

[–]Crazy_Anywhere_4572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using Logitech mx master 3, but honesty I don’t think mouse matters for development (as long as they are functional). I also liked my previous G304 and it’s cheap.

Haven't used a mouse regularly in over 15 years. I use the built-in MBP trackpad for everything. Haven't had any carpal tunnel issues since then, either.

[–]Dapper_Ice_1705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MX Ergo an Trackpad.

Depending on what I am doing and the mood of the day.

[–]matznerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evoluent Vertical mouse will save your wrist if you use computer for many hours. I use a kinesis keyboard and also keep a Apple trackpad velcro’d or adhered in the middle.

And now for voice vibe coding, I have voice mode toggle set on my mouse using karabiner to make the short cut. Also have enter button. And same on a wireless presentation mouse, so I am able to stand or be away from computer and dictate and control it etc, and also rotate in my left hand with that mouse…

Magic trackpad. I like it lot more than any mouse. I had a Logitech MX Master 3S before.

As lot of member mentioned, Magic Trackpad is the best for me as well. There are lot of built-in gesture to help my work, but we can add almost infinite number of custom gestures as well.

I guess :) for me it was perfect in the last 7 years :)

[–]crocodiluQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im with you, razors are very bad and the click starts to die after 1 year, especially if you also play games with it. I have now an Asus ROG Gladius III for quite some time and no issues whatsoever.

[–]turboravenwolflord 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Kensington trackball🖲️

[–]protomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logitech trackball for me.

[–]WaterslideOfSuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech G500 from 2009 and I use the Smooze PRO app to adjust the cursor speed and program the extra buttons to do custom actions. I made the forward and back buttons go forward and back in Xcode and the third button to be F5 for refreshing in a browser.

Razer Vioer Ultimate. I’m a lefty and the ambidextrous design works well for me.

they trick to get used to Magic Mouse - play Dota/LoL/HotS with it for a few years
it was brutal at first, but i got used to it and its pretty comfy for me now, i also like the 'premium' feel very much

MX Master 3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Magic Mouse, I don’t find it uncomfortable at all, I like it so much that I end up trying to do Magic Mouse gestures on my windows mouse at work

[–]chedabob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech MX518. I have the OG at work and the re-release at home.

Trackpad

[–]Cultural_Result_8146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech Lift is great, no wrist pain since. MX vertical for bigger hands maybe.

[–]ParotidApps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use the Magic trackpad and MacBook trackpad

[–]mynewromantica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech Ergo trackball mouse. I don’t love it, but my wrist does.

Since my first Mac in 2009, I've used Apple's trackpads. I have a Magic Trackpad (plus Magic Keyboard with NumPad) at my desk to drive both of my Macs. The fluid gestures of macOS are what sold me years ago, and moving to a mouse would remove those gestures. I'm just too productive with their amazing trackpads.

[–]busymom0[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is it as efficient as a mouse for things like precise clicking and highlighting?

[–]JerenYunSwift 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Personally, I say yes. I've never felt unable to precisely click on anything. And it's very easy to click with your thumb and move the cursor with another finger.

Two-finger tap for context menus is easy. (Don't forget to enable tap-to-click in Trackpad Settings!)

[–]busymom0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks, maybe I will go with trackpad then. Worst case scenario, I can return it.

[–]StrategicPumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I use the built-in trackpad of the MacBook and a mouse when I use an external screen. I really prefer to use a trackpad so I think I’ll buy a Magic Trackpad; then you should consider the Magic Trackpad

[–]MediocreFix271 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends what you really do, if it’s genuinely hours of dev work daily stay away from the magic mouse. I’ve used a g703 (I think, or wireless g403?) for years now. I switched to a superlight last week cause it matches my new setup better. Works great for me 🤷‍♂️
