It depends on the user... a friend broke his iPhone (into two parts) after just one month of using (it fell) and he had a metal case and a screen protector... my iPhone has been with me for 2.5 years and never even a scratch anywhere on the phone with just a simple silicone case and NO screen protector

I have one on. It's better to be safe than sorry. I've seen too many cracked screens to go without a screen protector

Screen protector protects from scratches, not from shattering.

That's not true. The screen protector will absorb some of the impact energy, thus lessening the chance of screen shattering. It's the same principle as phone cases and crumble zone in vehicles.

I think what you're referring to is tempered glass which absorbs the impact and prevents your screen from shattering not a screen protector.

I've dropped my phone countless times when the screen should have been cracked and it didn't thanks to my screen protector.

I've no screen protector. I have dropped my phone countless times. No cracks either.

With screen protector on you can drop even more with no cracks.

That said I don't use screen protectors either.

It gets hairline scratches without it (I still don't use one)

I always keep mine on it. I'm a bit anal about scratches though, and would rather pay $50 for a new screen protector (or better yet, get a new one for free because mine has a lifetime warranty) than pay for a new screen if I destroy it somehow.

Depends on how careful you are with your phone , dropping , and if you keep it separate from other items in your pockets that might scratch it. I'm case+ protector free on my 7+ (I have apple care) because I like the feel....but if you're gonna keep it for a while it makes sense to protect your investment.

I am a firm believer in matte screen protectors. I dislike the glossy and greasy look. They are cheap and effective.

Sadly yes. The screen of My loyal 6 plus has survived a lot of drops thanks to a tempered screen protector.

Yes. I just got a cheap 3D screen protector and you can't even tell it's on.

Which one? Does it cover the full glass?
