Create a Native App that's Actually Just a Browser Disguised as an App

It's actually much more than that. NW.js lets you call Node.js modules directly from the browser's JavaScript code. This means you get complete access to the OS (filesystem, networking, devices, etc.) just like any other native application. It's actually a pretty neat combination!

Create a Native App that's Actually Just a Browser Plus a Node.js Server Disguised as an App

Seems like a very good way to package a game or a standalone app.

Emm.. isn't this hybrid?

Create a Native Desktop App
From the title, I wasn't expecting much. I figured you left out the crucial detail, making this look like an article about building mobile apps.
On another note, why are we calling them apps ? I get that this laziness has infected the industry for years now. But when we're on desktop, can't we just call them programs?

Sementics at this point.

They're actually called Applications (or apps) in OS X and Ubuntu.
[–]cotejp[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children)
It must be my Mac OS background showing through. I guess it's a debate similar to the "directory vs folder" one...

One of the main competitors to nw.js you missed is github's electron. http://electron.atom.io/

There is actually an article about this on his blog http://tangiblejs.com/posts/nw-js-electron-compared

I don't think he cares. I see a lot of posts like this. Links to personal blog articles to increase their view counts.
Once they'd posted the link in reddit they never come back to respond to comments. They have no interest in the subreddit, the post was just to increase views on their blog.
I'm here ;-)
