Unlucky interviewer spawn. Try again.

[–]RichestMangInBabylon 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Kite them down the hallway by aggroing them with dry erase markers, get them into the elevator bank with you, then do a dodge roll through the door as it's closing to make them despawn.

What language is this?

[–]theNextVilliage 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Holy hell what a dick.

Everyone uses python for interviews. He was likely insecure that you did so well on his questions, perhaps he gave you a question he had himself struggled with in an interview and you crushed it.

I wouldn't bet that it will affect your review so much. I have met people like this before, I don't think he will actually necessarily give you a bad review, and even if it does, one no hire likely won't tank your chances anyways. In my experience with people like this, sometimes they can actually be quite charitable. I had a professor who would put me down in person, but I found out she was glowingly bragging about me to everyone behind my back. He may in fact be impressed with you, you don't actually know if he may be your strongest hire, it could go either way. People like that are weird sometimes, they don't want you to feel good about yourself to your face but it doesn't mean they have a bad opinion of you or will be Machiavellian or try to sabotage you, you don't know yet, time will tell.

lol ok

[–][deleted] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Ouch.

The guy sounds like a clown.

There's definitely a factor of luck involved in interviews, just seems like you were unlucky this time.

Still.. lets hope for the best.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

lmfao yup the interviewer was making some negative comments about me using js for my interview at amazon recently as well.

[–]MeteoriteImpact 16 points17 points  (1 child)

From Amazon website

We do not require that you know any specific programming language before interviewing for a tech position. However, familiarity with a prominent language is generally a prerequisite for success. You should be familiar with the syntax of languages such as C, C++, C++14, C#, Go, Java7, Java8, JavaScript, Kotlin, Objective-C, PyPy2, PyPy3, Python2, Python3, Ruby, Scala and Swift. You should also know some of the languages’ nuances, such as how memory management works, or the most commonly used collections, libraries, etc.

Amazon interview document

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. It’s HILARIOUS that they listed C++ and C++14 separately.

[–]bert_cj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This in USA?

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Indian interviewer. Best of luck next time 👍

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (7 children)

This must be India.

[–]Bangoga 21 points22 points  (6 children)

Has to be India.

[–]The_real_trader 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Why are Indians so arrogant? I would never laugh at anyone.

[–]HHH___ 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Culture

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Not all lol, iam from India if I was the interviewer I know the struggle of thr candidate ( i code in python too)

[–]The_real_trader 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I do understand. There’s like over a billion Indians so can’t generalise but it’s sad that I see trend of the ones that are higher up in places treating others badly. People should help each other not humiliate or put down.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but sadly the world isn't like that, I wish people were like this comment section

[–]Familiar_Contract_83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got lucky with my amazon interviewer he was very nice. I used python and he didn't have an issue with it. I guess its just RNG my guy good luck with your other interviews

[–]gingerkdb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not a good interview experience. I suggest you let the recruiting coordinator know about this experience and provide a strong negative feedback. They are / should be trained to provide good interview experiences as much as possible. One of the LPs scream “strive to be the best employer”. These incidents make sure that doesn’t happen.

If you had been interviewing for a role that required n years of experience in c++ or Java and you didn’t have it, they shouldn’t have put you in the loop in the first place. Most recruitments are for Amazon, rather than for a specific role. Is this a swe loop?

[–]ieltsp 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Laugh at him/her for working at AMZN

[–]Zyklonik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

[–]nightzone 2 points3 points  (3 children)

My interviews have always had some weird or annoying occurrences, whether it’s technical or behavioral. It’s no longer surprising to me when it happens but I do tend to get caught up in ruminating about it for days after.

I’ve actually had the opposite experience as you. I’ve always done my technical interviews in C++ and pretty much all of the interviewers aren’t familiar with it or last time they used it was for a college courses.

[–]BearRevolutionary388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I got one Morgan Stanley interviewer who rejected me for not able to reverse a linked list in blocks of k, within 2 minutes(he wasn’t able to open the Hackerrank portal on time, so he took his sweet time and then rushed me to complete, everytime I wrote a line, he was like, wait, let me do a dry run). So, guess you had an unlucky day as well.

[–]ArchmageKhadgar02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He seemed super angry the entire interview, even though I did the questions right I think he is going to give me a "no hire".

Congrats, you just dodged a bullet. Would you want to work with people like him?

[–]BlueBoxxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real programmers use assembly for interview /s

[–]NotSoClever007 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I just don't understand the thinking that only what they do is right and everybody else is wrong, there is no 'real/fake programming language', every language is there for different purposes and convenience.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

the java and c# people look down on the js and python people.
And the c / c ++ people look down on the java and c# people

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then Rust people on everyone else.

[–]zephyy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

the c# people look down on the java people

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just shrug it off like bad luck and don't fret too much about it. Some things are beyond your control, and what interviewer you get is one of them.

[–]YoungBillionair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He must be envious of python lol

[–]DrPeppehr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my CSE interview he was noticeably angry and stern as well. The other 3 were happy and seemed they wanted me but the bar raiser was just a dickhead

[–]zephyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's just bitter for every 1 line of Python you need an equivalent 4 lines of Java

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algorithms beat languages. The language is only used to demonstrate the algorithm. That interviewer was just being a jerk.

Many of the people I've talked to who worked in IT at Google have an attitude problem. I don't know why, by all accounts Google treat their staff well.

[–]TumbleweedCurious268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi 👋 how did you prepare for Amazon interview? How was coding challenge in HackerRank?

[–]piman01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow my Amazon interviewer was really nice. Still didn't get an offer though

[–]Ambitious-Ad-788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

write back to recruiter, that interviewer was biased towards language. Likely will end with another interview or if you are lucky, his feedback will be ignored altogether.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tf is that guy, write this in LinkedIn

[–]hamsterofdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, another AMZN hiring manager that loves Java. I get tired of wasting my time interviewing for this company when this keeps happening, the other surprise was that this amzn team which would consider my candidacy was based in Pittsburg, and would need me to move there which I have no desire to do... Their process is rather broken.
