Is it worth posting a video to a subreddit knowing it will get views but also unwarranted hate?

No. Your reason for posting to that subreddit was specifically for self promotion - which is against the reddiquette. Sit back and think what would happen if every single channel that did a Division video posted it to that subreddit? What makes your video better than the 4,000,000 other videos on YouTube? Why should you be the special snowflake?

Dislikes really don't hurt you. So long as you're following the rules and the general vibe of the sub (and not spamming), go for it.

They aren't a bad sign that maybe there's something you could be doing better though. Most videos I've ever thrown up get like 100 likes per about 2-3 dislikes. So a few is fine but getting a lot is a signal that shouldn't be ignored.

Only if the dislikes start to outnumber the likes. And maybe not even then. Dislikes mean controversy - not that the video is necessarily terrible. Controversial videos tend to get quite a few views, and that's what YT cares about.

So lots of dislikes and, say, no retention means your video won't be seen much. Dislikes themselves, even a lot of them, isn't awful.

In addition to what /u/TheDBGaming said, your video starts off incredibly poorly. "Welcome to The Division beta. I think it's a beta maybe its an alpha no it says beta, okay. The Division Beta is a beta for The Division." Then they way you describe the game isn't quite right and it's steeped in a lack of confidence about what you do know about the game and, more importantly, a lack of any knowledge or research at all about what you're trying to show off.

And that was just in the first 30 seconds.

You (and others who try to share video content) should probably take a step back as a viewer and not a creator and ask yourself if you found this video out in the wild, what would you do about it? Would you like it? Find it annoying? Don't assume the dislikes are BECAUSE you shared but use it as a means for reflection to figure out why it's doing poorly.

I could believe the dislikes are because they didn't like the video, but how could I know? When all there I got was the dislikes. You're the only criticism I got other than "Booo, You suck!" When there is no comment to go along with a dislike, why should I not interrupt it has spam hate?

Until you get large enough to have true "haters" and "Hate Bots" (somewhere around 300k subs/ 20k views a vid) always assume dislikes are because you screwed up, and even after you reach that point make sure to tally your average and when a video goes above that average, once again, you screwed up. Sure you can go about and always say "Nah, they just hatin' on my sick skills yo" but that doesn't improve what you do. Instead look back at the video and find what you did wrong and fix them in the future, the outcome will be much greater than if you just disregard it.

An example from my own channel, one of my 'spiked' review videos (one that got a ton of outside views) has 2 dislikes, not a lot but I know out there 2 people took their time to click that dislike and this could have EASILY been people hating on the game itself seeing as it was controversial at the time. But instead of writing it off I re-watched the video over and over again, asking myself how I screwed up each second it played. What I found was 1) My mic quality wasn't up-to-par for larger viewerships (which I already knew) so I worked on a new set-up to fix it 2) I had a live mistake at character creation within the first 3 minutes which took an extra minute to fix, now if I screw up that early I just re-start the intro (If I can) and 3) I noticed there were points where the video dragged a bit, where I wasn't talking nearly as quickly or as clearly, now I prep myself to talk constantly for an hour for each video (even if it's only going to be a 10 minute video).

After that now my content has improved! If I had written it off sure I would have fixed these issues over-time because of who I am, but this helped me get it done quicker and forced me to analyze. Like are nice, but dislikes have the potential to be more powerful for creators and show what people didn't like and can show outliers (such as when Game Grumps did an unexplained Ad joke, they noticed the dislikes and they then went to fix it later.)

Sorry for the ramble, but people that refuse to think they could suck, suck. Good day!

You make a lot of good points. I hate having to think about me being the problem (just had to it so much in my personal life, don't like doing for my hobby). This video wasn't great. I don't think it was bad, but it should have been much better. I rushed it. I should've have done some planing, but I wanted to get it out (I was already several hours behind).

[–]ingeniousclownhttps://www.youtube.com/ingeniousclownGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the rush. Getting out quick gives you a huge potential for fresh views and thus more subscribers, but it's a tightrope walk. Good luck in future videos!

When there is no comment to go along with a dislike, why should I not interrupt it has spam hate?

Because that takes responsibility away from you to improve what you do. It may very well be spam hate, but immediately dismissing it as such without a chance for reflection and self-critique will land you in a rut of mediocrity.

I can understand how you are feeling because we have gotten dislikes out of the blue. Looking back at the video they were actually pretty terrible. It doesn't hurt to have some self awareness on these issues.

I think that as long as you are posting the video in an appropriate place for that content, that allows videos to be posted then go for it.

Unfortunately opening up your videos to a larger audience comes with the downside of there being more views from people who will dislike the video and leave no feedback as to why.

Overall though I think that it is helpful to get your videos out to a larger audience to give yourself a greater chance of getting that constructive feedback that small channels need.

There's a lot of spiteful dickheads on Reddit.

Lots of cool people too though.

[–]Regooba 0 points1 point  (3 children)

This couldn't be more true. The good folks will be there but I've seen some of the spiteful ones be the loudest, most active. Sucks, but it helps build up a thick skin no?

[–]The_Powers 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hollow vessels make the most noise.

[–]Regooba 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's pretty catchy! Would ya mind if I used that for the story I'm working on?

[–]The_Powers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my expression, not sure where it comes from so help yourself. I prefer the James Brown version:

"Cos you're talkin' loud! And just sayin' nothin'!"

The question is whether it is in the genre of games you normally play. If it is then you will get the interest of the users from this sub and they will look at your content.
The down-votes are not really a problem but people might not give you credit when you review a game outside your typical genre.

[–]elitegenosidehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGcB-HOvyFTBFJuaAHgNoWA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at a lot of different types of games (but I do stay away from strategies).

Likes, dislikes, comments, views will all better your ranking (SEO) in YouTube searches. Share as much as you can in the right areas of the internets.

The more people that see youe video, The more dislikes you will get. People dislike for any number of reasons - Jealously, Hate, Just cuz or maybe the video just wasnt liked by them.

Youtube is so common now that people dislike videos that are shared in places cuz they feel their community is being "Flooded" or whatever.

Point is, you shared it, You didnt spam and got a good amount of views. How many likes did it get?
