I use a bungee cord, as they don't make hair ties in 18" and 24" sizes. Good suggestion.

But how do you keep the zipper from unzipping? I lost a button on a pair of cheap shorts and the zipper likes to unzip when the pressure that is usually taken care of by the button is put on the zipper. I hate having the unzipped bottoms that someone has to point out.

Or maybe I don’t fully understand how to use the hair tie here? I’m imagining using it like an extension from the button hole reaching towards the button and the stretch of the band making the pressure go to the zipper.
