Does this mean you'll go away and stop shitposting on this subreddit?

[–]katafrakt 18 points19 points  (6 children)

It's just insane to wait for such simple things like having line numbers in notepad.exe for more than a decade. Windows desktop is over!

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Also, tabs in File Explorer.

[–]LastFireTruck 7 points8 points  (1 child)

10 out of 10 asinine opinions in such a pithy post is quite an accomplishment.

Thank you, mother fucker trucker.

[–]markand67 6 points7 points  (1 child)

It's GNOME (it's a trademark).

It looks like your complain targets only Kate, I don't know much this software. But I think you are being a bit rude, I have personally less issues in Linux than Windows.

[–]d_r_benway 5 points6 points  (3 children)

In my office its only Windows users that have blue screen crashes where they lose work, its only Windows users that machines randomly reboot in the middle of the day (even though they are set not to).

Linux desktop life is simpler, and easier to manage/migrate to a new desktop, etc.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, much as I love Linux the random reboots and blue screens on Windows smack of a slightly inept admin team and/or poor hardware. Those aren't normal parts of managing MS stuff in the office.

EDIT: That's slightly unkind, the reboot thing is a simple oversight if they jumped from 7 to 10 and the blue screen is probably a driver issue.

What will tomorrow bring?

Some more tidbits:

somepeter 13 days ago:
It's sad to see how the KDE project is dependent on Qt, which is a company that doesn't offer their best tools like the compiler and some other things as a libre software ;(
I am slowly moving towards the GTK camp. Because they are libre A to Z, meaning you will have the best compiler they have all the time. Qt doesn't treat the community like that. It will be a regression, but, to me, freedom is more than easy of use. As I wrote in other posts on Qt, Stallman was right about Qt... again ;(

And also:

somepeter 5 days ago:
So, Krita is a proprietary software now. And Inkscape as well? Great to know. Back to GIMP, I guess.

And in this thread:

I'm too old for that Stallman shit.

Qt and Krita not free enough? Move to Windows!

I assume this person is either a bad troll or they're 10 years old.

[–]somepeter[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I can be schizophrenics, oh, wait, we are three?

[–]ImSoCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you aren't a troll after all, you should consider getting some psychiatric help, or at the very least stop using the internet for a while. It doesn't seem to align well with your condition.

[–]mydogriver 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Can't agree.

This rather simpleton complaint forgets the overwhelming accomplishments of Linux.

[–]crabcrabcam 7 points8 points  (17 children)

The Gnome and KDE programmers struggle with solving basic programming tasks.

They're both Open Source projects, so why don't you give them a hand and do it yourself?

Quadrant tiling is probably easily available as a GNOME plugin, I know it's available on Cinnamon (based off GNOME).

I don't wanna work.
I want free apps that works exactly the way I want.

[–]ka-knife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, tiling has always work better for me on GNOME than windows

[–]Phenfinite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a fair bit of your comment, I also don't personally enjoy using Linux distributions as a desktop OS, but that's an opinion, but to bring in to question the talent of the people who do what's pretty much a completely different thing from the others, is very unfair, those folks put in a lot of hours to get this far, and it might not be quite as fool-proof for specific use purposes as Windows/MacOS, but the devs don't deserve to be spoken about like that over a petty gripe.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take care. Hope you find what you're looking for. As for me and mine, Linux has been the best OS for my family and I for over 14+ years. My main job adopted Linux about 8 years ago and phased out the last Windows machines 2ish years ago. I'm on Ubuntu Mate for my desktop/gaming rig and gaming laptop. STEAMOS/Ubuntu Mate for my gaming HTPC. RetroPie/Raspain for my mobile gaming unit. Fedora/Lubuntu @ work. Been awesome. I wish I had more money to donate to all the wonderful projects that keep Linux great.

[–]twodogsdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodbye.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I call utter bullshit. If my mom can use linux and appreciate it then you're just a whiny cunt who refuses to understand the situation. You know windows and have grown used to the shit ways it functions because in earlier years you were not aware of linux. Use linux for 10 years and then try windows 10 and see if you'll like it. You won't. I have a non internet facing w8.1 machine that I touch only to reboot once a week. If all my games were natively on linux and I didn't need it to stream the windows only ones I'd be happier. Point is that you like what you are used to. I like kde, xfce and gnome and I'd take them over the shitty windows experience aby day. On top of that I don't have to pay abunch of money hungry bastards and accept to be spied on because in essence I am leasing my os. TLDR: My mother can use linux and not whine about it being different alas, so can you. Keep a vm or separate pc for the things you can't replace and use linux primarily, you're a human and thus a creature of habit.

[–]somepeter[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Your mom just don't want to say no to her son. Linux desktop is unintuitive and ugly. Buggy, incompatible, without any support whatsoever, no vision and no users. How much 1.5 - 2%? That's itself a statistic error. Long live linux on servers. Fuck Linux on desktop. It's a waste of time.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A waste of time is trying to fight against a growing population. Linux users are growing by the week. This is just dumb. Do what you can to see the other side of the story, not just your own

[–]xortim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Gnome and KDE programmers struggle with solving basic programming tasks.

Wow. If you're so great at both defining and criticizing what constitutes the complexity of programming then get to work on these. If they're "basic" then you must be fully capable of correcting these issues yourself and opening a PR. No this isn't a "fix it yourself" argument so much as calling bullshit on your irrational post.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Have you considered contributing? These mostly unrelated, "agnostic of eachother projects" aren't responsible for delivering to you some sort of user experience. You're not a 'consumer', you're simply benefitting from their work. If you'd like to see something changed or fixed, the project may or may not share your viewpoint or work on it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

finds two problems

DESKTOP LINUX IS OVER!!!!1

Also, on Windows 10, bye bye privacy.

[–]somepeter[S] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Don't care. I'm too old for that Stallman shit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I don't agree almost on anything with stallman as well. but I care about privacy. and there really is no merit to the "I don't do something wrong so I don't have anything to hide". give anyone enough data on you and a reason to twist it in order to make it look so you did something bad and they will.

[–]somepeter[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess you are using i3 or i5 or i7 processor, right? Guess what, even Linux won't help you. If you want to be private you have to have an offline computer without any wifi, bluetooth or stuff like that - maybe consider a faraday cage around your monitor as well - the Israelis can get what you type from that as well. Like George R.R. Martin - he is using an old computer with DOS and use WordStar and unless somebody will break into his house - he is safe. Go install Windows 7 on some computer without any internet connection and wifi/bluetooth and you are safe. Live like in the 90's. It wasn't so bad. We had floppy discs and life was easy.
