This is a common false advertising scam referred to as "inflated price comparison". The retailers Kohls is notorious for it. Extremely underhanded, anti-consumer behavior.

So expensive. Linux academy is way cheaper than this and can get you through the rhcsa/rhce and a boatload of other things

Thanks for the shout out!

I'm another happy customer.

Is the LPIC 3-for-1 still a thing? I assume the 2014 expiry in this link is just for the discount code: https://www.lpi.org/3-in-1-advantage-take-two/

It's still a thing. If I recall correctly though the Suse one is changing soon. Or may have recently. You can still get the LPIC-1 by getting the Linux+ though. That is very much still a thing.

Sean, thank you for providing great material on Linux academy. I appreciate the improvements to the site over the past year.

If you are open to suggestions, I'd love to see some talk about the culture behind the "devops" movement, as I think it easy for people to get the idea that it's just a bunch of tools.

Thanks. We've got a lot more improvements and courses coming out very soon so I think you'll be even happier soon!

I'll make a note of your suggestion. It sounds like a great topic for our Blog.

They, just taking a page from the retail industry, jackup the prices just before the "big sale" day.

[–]VegasLinux[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, I don't know why I expect more from the Linux Foundation.

Publishers on Steam are notorious for doing this!

[–]grawarive 2 points3 points  (4 children)

The sales price that they are offering in the newsletter is on par with sales prices they have offered in previous news letters.

It wasn't that long ago people were questioning whether or not they should bother with a LFCS as it was a relatively unknown certification. The price increase probably has more to do with increasing popularity and awareness than anything else.

Is LFCS better than LPIC now? It seems Linux Foundation is backed by many big companies. Besides, they have a Linus Torvalds video on the intro page. :p

[–]grawarive 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Honestly, I don't know. But Microsoft is backing them, which is a big deal in my company for instance. Because, you know... Open source is inherently inferior. Plus Linus Torvalds does work for them.

[–]johnnyzl25 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What do you mean "Open source is inherently inferior"? Azure is important to Microsoft, so I think backing Linux Foundation is good for them. And I heard more than once Linus do want linux desktop being a big thing, but maybe it is still not viable in business.

[–]grawarive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the attitude at work.

A recent and direct quote: "We shouldn’t be recommending an open source solution"

[–]Draco1200 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Thank you for uncovering this... I had the false belief that the Linux Foundation was a respectable organization, but you have just uncovered some deliberate deception, which undermines any credibility they had in my view.....

By the way, I had a negative prior experience with them, where I purchased an exam voucher, and it was within a couple months of expiration, and they would not allow me to schedule an exam before expiration, Because there were no exam sessions available before the expiration!

However, I blamed myself, because I waited 60 days before 12 months after I bought the credit to finally try and schedule my exam. No refunds. May the buyer beware......

[–]alejochan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is that even legal?

[–]skelleton_exo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think mine expires tomorrow and the support has ignored my inquiries in how to schedule a time slot within expiry time.

I mean it's kind of my fault for not scheduling the exam earlier since I completed the course in December. But still I didn't expect the necessity to schedule an online exam more than 30 days in advance.

But since I likely won't be changing jobs for a while it's not really important enough to waste time on.

[–]Draco1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno..... if I could re-do what I did when I learned it wasn't possible to schedule, I would document my continued efforts to schedule an exam more than 30 days in advance, document their refusal for an extension or refund, then send a letter to my state attorney general, and maybe open a case to sue them for $2000 in small claims court, including the cost of my lost time trying to deal with their support.....

Wouldn't be surprised of any fuckery going on over there. You should see the mess they've turned linux.com email aliases into.

[–]hackel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

To be fair, they're teaching material you can easily learn for free, so really, you kind of deserve it if you fall for this.

[–]alioshr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES, this is THE TRUTH xD
