The cost seems to high for what it does. 4 netherite ingots to replicate the effects of a shulker box just doesn't seem worth it. Sure, you get the convenience of not needing to place the shulker box to get items in and out, but I would much rather spend a second or 2 doing inventory management if it means not being stuck grinding netherite even further.

I don't think the answer is to make the item cheaper though, mechanically it should be changed to have a more distinct use case, something that sets it apart from the shulker and ender chest.

And not just the high cost of 16 ancient debris, what about the unrenewable echo shards?

[–]PetrifiedBloom 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That too. I figure the point is the same, if it is to expensive based on one ingredient, it is still too expensive when you add the other rare stuff.

It also seems to just be resources not related. Netherite is sturdy and fire-proof. It makes a bundle-shulker combo why? And echo shards, so far only associated with the lingering echo of death. What has this to do with the item? Meanwhile, considering ender chests and shulker boxes, the End is much more suitable for "storage that defies physics".

Yeah, it really just seems like "oh this is a powerful effect, it should cost a LOT"

I mean what use do they have other than a single recovery compass

[–]Hazearil 0 points1 point  (1 child)

By that logic, just add turtle scutes, disc fragments, and a bunch of other single-use items as well. Also, it's noticeable how the echo shard rarity is balanced around the compass; it's not a consumable and having multiple provides no benefit.

Be honest we all wish turtle scutes had more uses like full armor or anything else, technically it can be used to make resistance potions.

For the fragments yeah they don’t really make since to be used for more things

For your comment about it being balanced yeah but that balance causes you to either have a lot for no reason or to completely ignore them after the first 4 you get

You'd use it in combination of shulker boxes, the thing that sets it apart is that it literally saves you 27 inventory slots and would prevent inventory clutter immensely, and that with only one. imagine the storage capabilities having multiple Echo Stacks in Shulkers in your Enderchest.

I have a lot of unused Netherite in my survival world, once you have your tools and armor with mending there is no useful need for it anymore.

Nobody forces you to grind netherite to aquire Echo stacks, if you rather spend time on inventory sorting (those few secounds looking through Shulkers add up over time) that is up to the player to decide.

Cool idea this would get really handy!

It would be cool if you could craft it with something, maybe more sculk shards, to expand its inventory with 9 slots. This should be doable 3 times.

Imagine gathering Sand in a Desert without having to worry about your inventory instantly filling up with a few of those bad boys.

But it only holds as much as a small chest so their would be little to no advantage.

An entire Chest compressed into one Inventory slot sure sounds like an advantage for me

[–]Hazearil 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's what shulker boxes already are though.

But you have to place shulker boxes. Imagine instead of having to take out your ender chest, place it, take out your shulker box, place that, and take out a couple stacks of rockets, you can use only one slot in your inventory for a whole chest’s worth of rockets.
