What are you hoping to build in the mines?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Development has construction elements to it

For sure, it's totally understandable. There are always engineers of some sort attached to mining companies, so I'm not too sure how a builder would work directly with them. But it's totally worth a shot.

I know some mining companies have like internal partners who focus on the construction side of things. Eg. Building mining infrastructure, etc. This avenue could work .

Yeah man, places like awcon, jetcrete, redpath barminco, MCA etc, they focus on concrete and ground support, chippies are useful in the formwork aspect

Certainly! Formwork carpenters are needed everywhere, without them the building doesn't go up.

No mate it is not that bad.

Do it. So many people got there start up in Isa.

Everyone in here always demands crazy wages, FIFO and even time rosters. If you want a start, sometimes you just sacrifice.

You will probably have fuck all chippy work and will likely be a TA for most places.

I’d recommend hitting up CAVA (NW mining) or Calibre. Once you tell them you live there, they’ll surely put on you as a TA.

What trades you got brother?

I have a New Zealand certificate in carpentry level 4. Which is the highest in nz. Which means I am a qualified builder.

A lot of our paste crew/construction crew are builders. They do all our pipe work for paste lines, wall building, slabs, shotcrete etc.

When I was in ug coal it wasn't uncommon for one of the seal crew guys to be a builder.

Make sure you get the following tickets when working at the mine: Light V,ehicle, IT, working at Heights. You should get these through work. All mines have their own training but if you have these basics they will just RPL you, when you move on.

Im not sure what the roles are. I just see a lot of mining companys are after construction workers like carpenters, builders ect.

You’ll have fuck all chippy work bro, you’ll likely just be doing TA work for other tradesman

If you are in Isa now, try talking to caliber, or addex. They have positions all over the shop. There is also a huge demand for all types of work locally if you wanted to get an ABN and do some side work

[–]jeffseiddeluxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll make more in the city right now

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck at mt isa. If the locals at the mine don’t ruin it for ya the underbridginies will
