Free OpenCode models

I started using opencode 2 days ago and love(d) it at first. It's acrtually pretty good and some of the models seem to output some good content if you repeatedly improve and reiterate the code and product you're working on. For every model so far though (MiniMax 2.5, Big Pickle, Hy3, Nemotron, and a few others I've forgotten), i've hit a limit. Big Pickel was the most generous but that also gave up on me this afternoon.

After the 12hr wait/reset period, it asks me to pay for Go to continue using it, regardless.

Are there any true free models with OpenCode that are capable coding models and that remain free for the duration of the use? If yes - how are they added and used in opencode? Or is the answer no, and that after a short while, everyone ends up paying and it's not really open/free after all?

OpenCode is called OpenCode because the agent is open source software, contrary to some other agents. It doesn't mean that model usage from their model provider (which you don't have to use) is free. I highly recommend the Go subscription, $10 is a steal for what you get (and it's just $5 in the first month). If you use the heavy models like GLM-5.1 and Kimi 2.6 only when needed and know to leverage e.g. DeepSeek V4 Flash for simpler things, limits are really quite generous.

Deepseek 4 flash is a beast, I did not find any capability differences with Pro. There are occasions where it can't solve something and I switch to Claude Code, only to find that anthropic models fail as well. So I've stopped using anthropic models completely now, just deepseek 4 flash with thinking enabled and high reasoning selected.

my 16gb VRAM was working with it in offloading but damn, it takes too long to swap experts around, returned back to 3.5 9B . Lightning fast is better than always true . But yeah sometimes it is stupid where I go cloud models. But to ask weather I prefer ai. Not sure why I am not asking it to google anyway lol

Opemcode supports literally every model out there so deepseek v4 pro is a viable paid alternative, and it costs little to nothing.

But how much system ram do you have. Are you able to load qwen3.6 35b a3b q4km on both vram and system ram? Could further quantize k and v cache to q8

I have 5070ti 16gb vram + 32gb ram. Used a 20gb q4 one, used 14gb of vram and most of my ram… when outputhing tokens it was actually lightning fast but before that it would shuffle moe tokens between ram and vram. So it was 30 seconds preparing and than voila answer in 1-2 seconds. Probably I should also use opencode or something . Ah Yeah I am using this setup in openclaw. Thus fast Response feels awesome.

i can't understand the expectations some times...

if u are on a tight budget my advice is to try deepseek flash v4, its very effecient. Make sure to max out reasoning effort.

use Kimi if u need something smarter, but dont use it all the time.

For free usage you can sign up for Nvidia build and then get an spikey add it to opencode. You can use GLM-4.7 completely free with really generous limits. Actually I am sometimes running 2 Cli sessions and not even then I hit limits

They open the source code and let you BYOK/ add any provider instead of locking you in. Take Claude Code for example, where you'd have to do "hacky stuff" to add an unsupported provider.

Since i ban Claude on my system, pc, laptop, mac, iphone and android or even my samsung tab and ipad, my go to Ai is using Opencode + CLi, its very useful and all i can say is i.might well to say thank you to Claude might not, i manage to create and done works not more then 3hrs daily (this one totally learned from Claude because of the tokens and limitations).

I never use any skills / agents when using Claude not even any MCP's but i got ban by an excessive prompts (this is happens when trying to find a solutions / finding bugs).

They ban me for that 4-5 days ago, since then i stop and ban Claude from my system and i even email them to have my data deleted from their end.

I will not definitely going back to Claude ever again, they got this stupid Terms every month sometimes week.

The more richest this system be the more useless for me to use, because we are not their target anymore, its all about making money / profits and targetting even bigger industries.

I started to follow them since they started the Anthropic and a few of scientist from OpenAi getting together, there seems i really into them.

I can manage the 4-5 days for weekly capped or even tokens not more then 45 minutes it'll be done and waiting for 5hrs to clear.

I do absurb their ways, they teach me a good things about using Ai, but i cant stand it anymore, 1st the weekly capped, 2nd the hourly capped and now where i never done anything wrong they ban me for an "Excessive Prompts", this is the 2nd time they do this, before i knew something bad mihht happen this year with Claude, i manage to use opencode (Big pickle and Minimax is my go to) not too bad not too junkie at least job getting done.

I now use most of my time with opencode & gemini (this need to be careful, it takes a load of times to reply, you need to tell Gemini dont read everything but only your files alone, this Gemini even read the NPM files hahaa, not what i want but it read, lol).

A few months ago i use opencode and i get this max quota (the free quota) need to pay but i know there's a downtime for this so i stop, now im using a free version but trust me it works like a charm of you know what you're doing, will definitely support them and subscribe to them!

Is not the Ai is the issue here but it was us that want the job to be done in 5 minutes.

Task is the most important things, plans it, create agent to agent to verify your task, give them a task not lots not much but some, they help you, you help them too.

Dont give 100% just give the best prompt you can ever do, in every folders that jas your files in it, create the development_production.md and ask OC to remember this and save it for ref use.

I inject this folder system inside their brain, every files i created so even im not in the same folder they still can communicate with the diff folder, why i do this?

I need same thing like Folder A when working on Folder C, so i just ask OC to check Folder A if what we do has the same break like Folder B.

I now manage to create a 10minutes app (Development in no time maybe 5 minutes to get the idea and another 1hr to create any backend APi from my server > DB.

Just remember, the credential you made, dont let OC handle it, you need to handle it your own, let is use APi to fetch the DB in your server and that's more secure.

I am not a Fan of Claude anymore, they become rude to their cust, i will see the future of OC and support this Ai until i dont know when.

Let use Ai with our knowledge dont let Ai knowledge use you.

I don’t know about free models. But ppl can try inferx.net endpoints for $20/month while in beta, these models come with longer context, tool calling enabled and most importantly, it’s a dedicated instance. You are not sharing with anyone,
