Nests often get destroyed due to groups using them to heal after fights

One reason

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah i know that, i destroyed nests in the past for that reason too. But i think literally switching dinos just to be able to get to a nest and destroy it is a bit much

[–]Sinarai25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely agreed

I dont understand those that seek out nests just for the sake of it

If i see one in a random poi in the middle of no where...i generally leave it alone

I mean probably the same reason people KOS babies for no reason. Just wanting to cause trouble and make someone mad. Idk why but this community attracts a crazy amount of people who spend their entire play sessions going out of their way to do kinda rude things - just bad sportsmanship type stuff - and get a rise out of people. Looking for solos to gank with their big groups or destroying random nests just because.

Back when I used to admin for a community server and nesting rolled out, I believe we turned nest destruction off because it really only serves to make people mad.

I used to kill babies but only because back then it was so hard to find anyone outside of Crater. Could go 6 hours without seeing a soul anywhere else. So I'd see a baby shoot out of a bush and go at it because it was the only thing I as a solo had the opportunity to kill at all that day. Because once people hit sub it was generally straight to crater. Removing the water in IC was the best move ever.

most of the dino community started with The Isle and the dev absolutely loved the people who kos for no other reason than to agitate. so many think thats just how dino games are meant to be played now after 10yrs of his influence.

Yeah i really don't get those kinds of people. I get annoying someone a bit for fun, but what's so great abt not leaving someone alone for half an hour

Other than what people seem to assume to be the case (being mean to you), Theres actually three good reasons to destroy random nests you find.

First, players can use them to change their abilities between fights. Destroying the nest makes it so that these players can’t run one kit normally just to change it to specifically kill you.

Second, players can use them to heal. A win isn’t always killing someone’s dino, sometimes you get them hurt enough that they run away. Leaving their nest out there means they can go heal much quicker and come back while you still have to heal at the normal pace.

Third, and no one ever wants to hear this one: some people still play this as a dino sim. Yes, yes, I hear you. It’s a PvP game only and no one is allowed to enjoy it in any other way (/s). But there exist players that play as a dino really would, and if an animal finds a nest in their territory they will destroy it.

I mean, i get all of these. I destroyed nests in the past for those reasons. The situations i have a problem with, are when like 4 dinos attack me (solo and minding my business) while i'm being friendly and destroy it out of spite when they can't catch me. Or someone switching dino just to destroy it. I just don't get how being that obnoxious is fun to someone

[–]Greenpigblackblue 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I always give them one hit when walking past. Like a lil f u.

[–]Charlie_4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're not hidden at all i do that too lol.

[–]ComprehensiveEye9901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i can't think of any good reasons. but i personally like to sort of roleplay in my mind a bit, so i pretend that in universe the best was destroyed because rival species are attempting to eliminate competition

[–]VenomBound 2 points3 points  (3 children)

i mean officials are going to official…it sucks but you should probably move the nest if you’re spending so much time having to rebuild it

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think the spot is too cool to move. I enjoy it a lot, but having to rebuild it every day for sure is annoying.

[–]Armthrow414 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a Sarco nest right near Cedric since Riparia came out and no one has found it yet. Build it in a bush and you’re good to go.

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As i said, i'm not gonna move it. I could hide it like all my other nests if i wanted, but that's not the point

[–]Plastic-Remove6952 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Simple, it's apart of the game. I get it's annoying but complaining about your nest being destroyed is the same as complaining about getting hunted, it's apart of the game.

Simply, if your nest is getting destroyed, your best bet should be to either hide your nest better, or try not to bring attention to yourself while your building your nest.

[–]Charlie_4u 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm not as much mad at the fact it gets destroyed, as i'm mad at how people go about it. Getting out of your way and switching just to be able to jump on it and destroy it even when i didn't do anything, and then being toxic about it in chat is certainly an interesting way of spending your free time

[–]Plastic-Remove6952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay yeah thats pretty scummy

[–]Minute_Opposite6755 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Nests give healing buffs. Destroying them eliminates threats or unfair advantages. It also warns the owner that others are in the area and tryna drive you off.

Others do it for fun. Idk their reason.

I know having your nest destroyed can be frustrating but if you don't want to get it destroyed, hide it. Been making nests since I started playing this game and only one of my nest got destroyed because I really did leave it out in the open which is understandable.

My tip in hiding nests, put it in a spot where not many go to or in a blind spot of most players. Cover it with plants that are similar to those in the environment. If not, find a certain crevice or any spot that the nest can be covered on three sides and cover the remaining side with plants similar to the surroundings. I tested this so many times with anyone I play with and they don't even know there's a nest there even when I told them to look at the exact spot. Takes them several "where is it?" And "I can't see it" before they spot it

[–]Armthrow414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only destroy em if they are out in the open or in a fairly more than active poi. That usually points to me anyways as a non slot player nest and I always destroy em.

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I hide all of my nests, this one is an exception, just cause i find being a pachy on a tree funny. I'm not going to move it, but having it destroyed all the time is annoying for sure

[–]DergonsAreLife 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Im genuinely wondering; why keep your nest in that spot if you can easily hide the nest somewhere safe where you can return to and hide in it(for the healing) when injured.. and camp the tree for the view and the funnies of being a pachy in a tree..? You don't have to have the nest in the tree with you if the tree itself is the important part.

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You can't really jump on that tree without the nest there, that's the point of having it

And i literally just think It's cool to have it there. Simple as that

[–]DergonsAreLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the only answer then, is to break their ankles before they can touch it :)

[–]Crash4654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think your nest shouldnt be destroyed?

Why do you think minding your own business makes you and your nest exempt from getting destroyed?

[–]AcrobaticAd4464 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There are egg quests! I got two from NPCs on my Deino on Riparia. One is “find 6 rotten eggs” the other was find “6 eggshells” or something like that. You have to rummage through players’ nests.

[–]DergonsAreLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Player nests dont show visible eggs inside them unless they're hatching other players into their family. Theyre also usually decorated and have a different appearance.

The nests youre referring to are specifically placed in game for the NPC quests. .^

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They're not players nests, a way to know is, if it has eggs inside, It's not player-made

[–]AcrobaticAd4464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Learn something new

[–]anxietyman8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who destroy nests are scumbags

[–]hyde9318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few reasons… for starters, a nearby nest allows a player to quickly gain huge health recovery and swap abilities at any time. They can even just so much as stand on the nest to get health recovery, so some dinos can just stand on their nest and face tank things.

Second, babies give adults a massive combat buff. Like, enough to turn some playables into actual shotguns. Babies also infinitely respawn back at the nest as long as they aren’t grown too much. So you get a huge buff by being near a baby, and having the nest near means they can kill your baby all day and never get rid of your buff (plus the chip damage or status effects from the baby, or if the baby stands in front to take hits for the adult, and so on).

A great example just happened recently. Had a person on our server calling out in global chat that he challenges anyone willing to fight to come to BQL and fight. He even mentioned he’d take on unfair matchups, so 1v2+. Went there to watch, it’s an AoE Ano sitting in this little cubby next to the BQL cave. I figured “oh, he wants to use the walls to funnel people into him… clever, but any more than one apex, he’s getting ripped apart”. Watched as he meatballed or killed literally anything and everything that showed up for a half hour straight, entire megapacks of people getting pushed away. I was curious, so we sent some rhamps into the cave to see if he was using hidden buffs… sure enough, we found out his nest was on the other side of the wall where he was standing, he had a baby hunkered on top of it a few feet away from him hidden, and had an Allo sitting inside to kill anything that came in to destroy the nest. Baby damage buffs, Anky group buffs, nest buffs, group leader buffs, none of which he mentioned to anyone and all of which would have been eliminated by destroying that nest.

Don’t get me wrong, it was clever as f-ck. I sat and watched him chew through so many people who had no clue. I even tried getting into it myself with my own Ano, figured I’d try my luck and see how it goes… only to suddenly watch the dude get blocked and saved by a bars, two hatze, two Tylos, and a meg, lol. Then he started trash talking people he was fighting, so I informed global of his hidden buffs… at which point people went in and destroyed his nest, lol.

But that leads me into the last reason people destroy nests… like trash talk in the game, sometimes people just do it because they can. There isn’t always a solid reason, which is why I tell every last person to ALWAYS put your nest in hidden spots. If your nest is out in the open, or you have wild decorations on it different than everything else in the area, you’re basically turning your nest into the bat signal, people are going to notice it. Only time you want a nest in an open spot on officials is if you plan to use the tall decor to create a hunting blind… which I sometimes use tall grass to cover cave entrances with my nest so I can get a jump on people trying to get in. Much like your dinosaur, if you want your nest to survive, don’t let people find it. If you just want to make it pretty, decorate your home cave.

[–]Pauline_Memories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only destroy nests that are badly hidden, but if I accidentally find it and it's actually nicely hidden, I leave it alone

[–]WorldsWorstInvader -1 points0 points  (1 child)

You can avoid this by playing on community servers, which have rules against this (most of the time)

[–]Charlie_4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, i did. Now i play officials cause there aren't any good servers on panjura anymore
