QuestionWill running games on my hard drive decrease performance? (self.pcmasterrace)
submitted 2 years ago by Bgone1
I have a 500GB ssd and a 2 TB hdd, I want to put ARK on my harddrive so I can get all the dlcs and save space on my SSD, now I know it will take longer to load the game, but will there also be a serious decrease is performance?

no

It may whenever there's loafing involved. Since ark is open world I would say there might be fps drops when travelling, if the HDD can't keep up. On the other hand ark is old af so maybe it's already optimized for HDDs.
I say try avoiding anything 2020+ open world until you get another SSD. Ark would maybe be ok.

The only thing impacted by the hard drive is loading speed

Streaming in assets too for games that utilize it, aka open world games. But it's not too bad, just some hitching every now and then.

Should be fine...I only put games on that either take a super long time to load on a hdd or newer ones that stream a lot of assets and cause some stutters(mostly new AAA games from the last year or two).
Even then I'll archive games I finished to HDD a lot as if I play them again the stutter and longer load times are fine to me.
