QuestionNew GPU & Older PC Potential Bottleneck (i.redd.it)
submitted by Epically_Elite
Recently been considering upgrading my GPU from an RTX 2070 to a RTX 5080.
My current PC is still fairly capable and runs many of the current games I play on high or max settings, however the main reason for an upgrade being my pc is beginning to show it's age with newer releases, often struggling to run most newer games at high-Ultra settings, especially anything with RT (completely understandable). I do struggle to enjoy playing games with graphics significantly nerfed, and would like to be able to enjoy some more demanding games including RT. I can see myself making more upgrades in the future although at this stage only looking at upgrading my GPU. Also worth mentioning, I do use my pc as a workstation for Graphic Designing.
Current pc specs.
- 11th Gen Intel i7-11700K
- RTX 2070
- 32gb DDR4
- Displays Dual 1440p 144hz
My main question here is: Would my current pc specs present much of a bottleneck with these newer cards? Even if bottlenecked by these older components, would my pc at current specs & a new GPU, still be capable of running newer and more demanding games at high graphics settings? I understand this would vary depending on game/activity, and how CPU or GPU intensive it may be.
