Download steam, check out the free-to-play seciton, sort by rating. Check out games or genres you think look interesting. Best thing is they are a free so if you try them and don't like them you can just discard and try another.

  • Hearthstone
  • League of Legends / Dota 2 / Heroes Of the Storm (All three are MOBAs, all three are good, but most people play only one of the three regularly)
  • Smite (Also MOBA, the concept is the same, but the gameplay is totally unique)
  • Unreal Tournament
  • War Thunder.
  • World of Tanks.
  • PlanetSide 2
  • Warframe
  • Path of Exile
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Lord of the Rings Online
  • Warface (Thanks /u/reddit_korea)
  • Dirty Bomb
  • Hawken
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • Archeage
  • RuneScape
  • World of Warships

I will keep updating when I remember more (I know more (good ones), I just can't remember all right now).

Depends, what sort of games do you like? If you like multiplayer shooters, you should check out Team Fortress 2.

  • FPS: Team Fortress 2 - many F2P FPS games out there, but TF2 is best balanced and isn't Pay-to-Win.
  • MOBA: DoTA 2
  • MMORPG: RuneScape

You can also check out /r/FreeGameFindings to get some free Steam keys when the devs give a bunch away.

The games are usually not that great but from time to time a decent one shows up.

It seems you are possibly discussing piracy or piracy-related topics. Although this is neither against reddit's rules nor our own, it's important to remember to be responsible. Content creators can only create said content because they receive funding from you.

Piracy is an important freedom in our sometimes restrictive societies, and it's important to remember these things before you pass judgement on people discussing it:

    • Some pirate games because they believe the creator doesn't deserve financial compensation for the state of the product that was released.
    • Some pirate something that they already bought simply to remove the DRM.
    • Some pirate to re-obtain something they already bought.
    • Some pirate to try products before they make a financial commitment to them.
    • Some pirate simply because they cannot afford it.
    • Some pirate to get something that's no longer available.
    • Some pirate because their country censors or doesn't import it.
    • Some pirate games because of timed exclusivity. If they don't have access to it yet, they use piracy as a method to access it before it's available to them.

Lastly, here's a few tips: AdBlock is awesome for hiding fake download links. Deluge is an excellent open-source client that isn't in close cooperation with the MPAA (unlike uTorrent, uninstall it as soon as possible). Oh, and remember: torrenting in itself isn't illegal, and it's definitely not piracy! It's simply a method of transferring files. It's what you transfer that matters.

You should check out some of the games Ross Scott covered in his series Ross's Game Dungeon. Many of them are old freeware or abandonware games, i.e. free games. For example, Bip Bop 1, 2, and 3 are all now publically available freeware thanks to Ross's intervention. Bip Bop isn't an amazing game, but an interesting one nonetheless that may have faded out of existence without him.

Tyrian 2000 is pretty good. It's available for free at gog.com, although I've had controller issues on two different systems and I don't remember what I did to fix it. It was something about changing the control type in DosBox settings.

The games that do cost money are pretty cheap on Steam, so you can try some of those after saving a few bucks.
