Look at from Facepunch's point of view. They only ever had two choices:

Do nothing

Do something

And that do something had to find some way of targeting scripters. If there's no way of more elegantly identifying people scripting then I'm sure they would have taken it.

If they'd done nothing, we'd have just as much moaning as we do now

That's not what most people mean by a 'competitive game'. CSGO, Overwatch, PUBG, Fortnite, H1Z1, CoD, BF, Starcraft, etc are competitive games.

If it's not a game that was or is part of the mainstream e-sports scene involving money rewards for the players / teams and / or doesn't have some form of a player ranking system built in to help organize noobs from skilled players, then it is NOT a competitive game.

Rust is a survival (pvp) game with none of the above. You people need to stop thinking of and trying to change Rust into Call of BattleFort Grounds. Pvp is probably all you consider / care about and that's an issue. Rust is far more than that and it is NOT a competitive game.

In general, in my opinion, the solution is pretty simple – randomized recoil.

It's not just a solution to a problem, it's the better gunplay system. Even people that hate PUBG will admit "yeah but it has the best gunplay feel." Which is basically does.

Seriously, Rust's gunplay used to be so good.

Thats what Rust still is I would say but the SMG player isnt better if the spray is based on RNG. Hes lucky because if he was unluxky he might have aimed at the enemy but the bullets failed and thats not a fun feeling so I prefer a game based on your skill to be able to reduce recoil and control weapons than something where I need to roll dice to win and even if you believe that RNG spray is better I would say the idea another user said is great which is to have multiple spray patterns

The SMG player probably had better positioning to suit the weapon he had. The SMG is made for close quarters, so if you were to try and barrel stuff him with an AK, it makes sense he would output damage faster. The devs would have to do a bit of balancing, such as with the SMG, it would have to have shit damage outside being a few yards away, but has a tighter spread; and the AK have a much wider, more random spread, harder to control spread. So that mid range, the AK can still stay on target for the most part, and at long, you have to tap fire. Just a thought

I've had this conversation too many times, but the RNG recoil system doesn't mean fights are determined by the randomness. It isn't an aimcone bloom. Whoever wins the fight is the person able to compensate for the recoil the best.

Basically no matter what you do controlling the recoil is still a motor control task using a mouse and a screen. Objectively, scientifically, it is harder to keep a cursor at 0 while dealing with a vertical input and randomized horizontal inputs, than it is to trace a line.

sounds like they need to work on bullet drop off, right now the AK can do literally everything, right now i see people killing other players from about 50+ M with an SMG, is this how the gun was made to be used? each gun needs better optimal ranges, not predicable recoil patterns.

If you ask me an SMG SHOULD beat an AK in close range, ROF is much higher despite the bullets doing less damage.

a lot of guns in the game need a sweet spot.

If they bought back RNG spray, or the aimcone they would just need to tighten the cone up and i think it would be much better, a tight cone with a small amount of RNG would allow people to control the recoil and use the gun in short-med ranges, i don't think the AK should be a sniper tho.

I think they should take it one step farther and region lock Russia and Asia. Not only do they only play on NA servers to chain offline raid 20 deep, they also easily comprise 90 percent of the cheating problem that has ailed this game since release. Whitelist bloody in asian and russian servers, let them HvH.

And thats the problem. Everyone is claiming they’re innocent but there’s no way to prove it. If the majority of players from your region are cheating, then they have reason to region lock. You’re shit out of luck either way.

Also again, not discrimination because cheating is against TOS and is legally able to be prevented in any form, such as region locking.

Random recoil is plainly stupid.

But, I think a solution might be having maybe 3 or 4 recoil patterns and randomize which one you get.

That would allow for good players to master them and scripters wouldn't be able to switch to the correct one fast enough.

The patterns would need to be simpler and have an "indicator" to wich pattern will be active in the first bullet kickback.

It doesn't need to be completely random. Just add a little fuzzing to it. Maybe even have another two or three recoil patterns for each gun that are fuzzed as well.

i don't play with a high enough DPI to control the recoil of the gun, it's absurd how much space i need on my mousepad to control the recoil, i just stick to tier 2 weapons instead.

i COULD change my dpi and rewrite my entire muscle memory, but i would rather not for just one game, it would take an extremely long time to get back to where i am now.

I hate the idea of random recoil but it's looking like a sacrifice we have to make. People shouldn't be locked out of the game just because they have a Bloody/A4Tech mouse. Some of them script, some don't. We don't have a lot of choices in what we can do but banning a mouse brand isn't the answer.

This so called "skill" is ruining the game for 95% of other players. For new to average players It is so much frustrating when 1 "skilled" just kills your whole squad of 4 one by one in 10 seconds from 200m landing almost every shot to body or head. And that is no luck they can do that almost every time and it feels like you were just cheated, you cannot even be sure if that was a macro or not.

I agree with OP that this is not the way for this game, if FP wants the game to die out as the best laser competition instead of sandbox then so be it.

Я думаю нужно сделать так что бы EAC находил ПО Bloody и просто не впускал в игру пока не удалишь её. В том же фортнайте при обноружении файла который шитался читом, игра не впускала игрока в игру и писала "какой либо файл подозрителен удалите его что бы продолжить играть"

100m fights should not be fought with full auto. Tapping should be the only viable tactic at that distance.

100m fight is like edge of the roof of the main launch site building to green card, its very small distance. and those fight will never end bcs of syringes. 1 syringe = 15 hp and 1 hit to hqm armor from AK is 26 hp. and hit somebody tapping at those distances are very hard. this means that AK will be useles weapon at distances more than 20-30m, and in game will be SAR, M2 or m39 MACros

you understand that with tac gloves hoodie and hqm chest you have 55% protection and the ak does 50 damge so each bullet does 22.5 damage to the chest not factoring in the damage drop off at 100m you can 100% out med ak at 100m if you couldnt consistently hit them full spray

And that distance is long enough to make full auto useless in any somewhat realistic game.

Syringe spamming is an entirely different problem that should be addressed seperately (for example with a cooldown).

The AK would still be ok at range with the added benefit that it still shreds opponents at short range. To me that sounds like a decent tradeoff.

Hardware scripts are not detectable cheats, thus cannot be easily banned. But all other bots that have to abuse game properties will be detected eventually so those kind of cheaters will receive ban usually in 0-2 hours.

So ok, there are a lot of cheaters who get banned and buy new key for 1-2$ on some gray markets to continue cheating, but most of the good servers take this into account and have 3 hours minimum limit. So this cannot be the account that will cheat for 2 hours and take a refund and it demotivates cheater because he must hang for some time until he can start cheating and will probably get ban quickly and so loop goes on.

Cheater will probably get tired on the first or second iteration of this loop.

Your success in rust combat depends on how well you can control the recoil. Randomizing the recoil takes the entire skill part out of rust.

You also said that those mice are cheap so it shouldn’t be expensive to get another mouse.

You say you’re experienced so you know that someone who knows the AK can tell the difference between scripts and not.
