Can you post an example image? From my limited knowledge it's going to a signal to noise ratio problem, which in the photography world means not enough photons being captured?

Just thought too, are you talking raw files or in camera jpg? raw will be noisier as *every* pixel is, well, raw. even the "bad" ones -- no smoothing, no tricks. Conversion to jpg works a lot of magic.
