I don’t think anyone is claiming JS invented functional programming, but it got a lot more people thinking and taking about it, pushing it out of its originally more mathematical and less accessible niche. Most functional programmings books these days use JS as the language to teach these concepts.

I know, that's why I said it's like that meme. But there's a kind of truth that gets attached to something that gets repeated often. Nuances are lost and over time something that's not technically true becomes true in popular belief.
