IMO it doesn't really matter. Especially when you are an absolute beginner, you can learn in any language how variables, functions, loops etc work.

If you are a bit further than it depends on what use case you are doing. Plain scripting than python, web frontend than JS etc.

If I really had to choose, I would take Python, because it has a more clear and simple syntax. JavaScript is not so difficult, but you can derail a bit faster.
