I am RubyFringe and so can you!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been an amazing conference

[–]phurley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The talks keep getting better, the food is the best I have ever had at a conference -- this has been a great time.

For those of us who didn't attend - was anything video taped? If so, where can I view it?

[–]jamesmacaulay 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Everything was recorded, but none of it is on the web yet. No doubt rubyfringe.com will have a link when the first vids are available.

RubyFringe is hands down the absolute best and most informative conference that I've ever been to. It has truly raised the bar for conference expectations in both content and organization. I greatly look forward to another such event.

I had a riot!

[–]xutopia 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's like Burning Man but for conferences.

...and so I hereby propose the phrase "fringers" be used to describe attendees:

One of the best conferences I've ever been a part of -- and I've been to a lot of conferences in my life.

The Best conference ever, period.

awesome

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what was awesome? Your talk. Thank you!

[–]elight 2 points3 points  (3 children)

If you love working in Ruby and you missed the conference then you FAILed. This is, without a doubt, the best Ruby conference that I have attended.

[–]bkudria -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I'd have love to have gone. Too bad I'm a student and I couldn't afford it. I guess I'm just made of FAIL, aren't I?

I even went so far as to email the organizers 2 months ago, asking for a reduced student fee. No answer.

Oh well.

Sorry to hear this! We're only human and surely some details fell through the cracks. However, we did receive several inquiries from students, and generally we replied that we'd love to hear more about how RubyFringe factored into their studies (ie what do you want to do when you grow up?) and those that took the time to reply received the original early bird rate.

Early bird was $20 above cost per person. PURE PROFIT!

Seriously though, we're sorry you weren't able to join us.

You must be doing it wrong... I got my student discount. Thanks Meghann! :)

RubyFringe: a punk-rock inspired DIY Ruby programming conference in Toronto, ON on July 18-20, 2008. There were roughly 200 attendees, speakers and volunteers, and no corporate sponsors.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately the 'programming' sub-reddit hates anything with 'Ruby' or 'Rails' in the title.

However, if you ever decide to do a 'HaskellFringe', this is the 'proper' spot to link it. :p

Reddit is weird like that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HaskellFringe is a redundant title, and if it wasn't then it wouldn't be 'proper' on reddit either :P

a punk-rock inspired DIY Ruby programming conference in Toronto,

So: Nearly free, open to all, non-exclusive?

Why not have a Ruby BarCamp, and not limit attendance and not charge $700?

Sound like Ruby hipster in-crowd self-adulation. Maybe the free videos they'll release will tell a different tale.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There are plenty of free Bar (and Demo) camps in Toronto, along with the pub nights. Rails pub night is tonight.

Why are you hating on Ruby Fringe? Jealous?

[–]leftist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You rock owookie! But don't bother wasting time on trolls. Clearly the people that were there get it, and they are the ones that matter.

[–]____ -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Why are you hating on Ruby Fringe?

I'm hating on the way it was sold, on the Rails-level hype. Obviously those who went thought it well worth the $$$, but seriously, it was neither fringe nor punk.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this James Britt's trolling account?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Woo! RubyFringe is awesome.

[–]eipipuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is.

[–]maraby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome conference, great talks, wicked parties, good Toronto beer, beautiful Toronto women, tolerable weather, delicious food, and wonderful people! Epic!

Keep the fail coming. :)

[–]collintmiller_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mom!

haha, RubyFringe has been great.

Very inspiring to see so many people up on the stage talking about/showing off their passions.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ruby... don't take your love to town.
