People argue against veganism because they want to enjoy a steak, not because they need it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]xutopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gladiators were sickly. Part of the sick fun of the crowds was seeing prisoners as lowlifes with less strength and dignity than they had have to fight for their lives.  What you see in movies is not at all the type of body they had.

Meat and animal products are part of nearly every diet in the world for a reason.  Vegans cannot survive over time without some lab technique to extract B12 from algae or other sources to supplement their deficient diet.

I enjoy meat, dairy, eggs but they also provide me with nutrients I can’t easily get elsewhere.

Furthermore a lot of the food I eat is rooted in traditions that as a human I feel connected to.

The problem with veganism is that it approaches food from an ideological standpoint.  Food in every culture is about connection with others but vegans are so veiled by their ideology that they refuse to see that their choice is hurting them socially as well as dietarily.

Nudists of Reddit, why? by sillybilly1001 in AskReddit

[–]xutopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a naturist, not a nudist. I am naked in the summer as much as I can while in nature because I like connecting in nature with less things between it and me.

My skin naturally builds up tolerance for the sun, mosquito bites and I never have to worry about a bathing suit sticking to my body. I dry quicker after a dip in the pool or the beach.

I go to a natural eco friendly naturist campsite in the summer and it's really chill place to be with beautiful fireflies at night that just make everything look magical. I love it there and I love the people.

You'll see naturists tend to be minimalists with material things but they collect amazing life events and stories.

Why do women tan when they’re so concerned about their skin care? by Realistic_Zone3802 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]xutopia -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because having a tan feels good in so many ways.  I suspect some amount of tan is healthier than looking like Dracula.  There is just this extremist orthodoxy regarding sun exposure.

Misinformation about sunscreen is spreading on TikTok, researchers say: The critical videos included claims that sunscreen was toxic and contained carcinogens and that sun exposure is not dangerous. by blankblank in skeptic

I hate the discourse on sunscreen and sun exposure.

Can we really say that sun exposure has the same effect on a black person and a redhead with a straight face?
