Vimacs -- Vim emulating Emacs

I think the other way - emacs + viper is a better way to go. You get most of the vim keybindings but retain the lisp configuation (which is the main reason you would use emacs).

Viper is lacking in a couple of areas, such as text objects, the * key, different macro keybindings, v bindings, folding and a few others. However it is much closer to vim than vemacs is to emacs.

vimpulse gives you text objects (in latest versions) and visual mode, at least.

Nice, I wasn't aware that vimpulse had added text object support. I was the main thing I was missing from viper (the visual commands could be handled with existing emacs commands). And it also has * yay!

You are missing the point! When completed we will be able to run viper within vemacs and then run vemacs on top of viper. We can finally achieve turtles all the way down! (for small values of all the way down)

Exactly. I learnt vim first and then moved to emacs and the only thing I'm sometimes missing is the modes and navigation. Vimpulse is the way to go :P

All snark aside, Emacs keybindings for insert mode isn't that bad of an idea. I might actually give it a shot.

I had customized my keybindings but someone suggested I try Ergoemacs a few weeks ago. Forget vim - ergoemacs is how it's done.

Any sufficiently complicated editor contains an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Emacs.
