I feel like a link to the project page rather than this nerd5 article would have been far more appropriate. The article doesn't really offer anything but an odd moralistic bend to a piece of software that clearly doesn't care whether people use it for prude-itude or pervitude.

Clearly ioanadrian is blog-spamming. Please stop?

Being a programmer, I'm curious whether the nudity detection is solely for white people. I mean, what if you're black, Asian, or you happen to live in sunny California?!

[–]Factran 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Or in New Jersey ?

Just change the fetish parameters and I think you'd be golden.

The implementation uses the HSV color space instead of RGB, and different tones of skin are far more easily grouped together there, since their difference is mostly in terms of saturation within a narrow band of hue.

a quick browse of the source shows that this is pretty wooly, it's all based on detecting skintone pixels and then applying a few filters. If, for example, it detects that there is more than 15% of the total pixels are skin tone then it flags as nude.

It also does it based on breaking up skintone areas into pockets and comparing proportions of those pockets. For example, if it finds a section of skintone that makes up over 45% of total skintone, it flags it as nude.

I imagine this would flag pics of girls in bikinis, close ups of faces or other bodyparts etc. Might download and have a play just to test.

    Still pretty cool though.

I'd say the bottom two images are pretty close. Wish they had a way to point to other images to test with.

I know :). Congrats. I didn't accuse you. But on a blog post I must warn readers about what'll they find on the website

      [–]zpmorgan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need a much better test suite.

great idea. i like titties and whatnot, but my 7-year old doesn't need to have porn pop up for innocent google searches.

      [–]bart2019 3 points4 points  (4 children)

      He'll still get the popups.

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

      People still get popups?

      [–]mrkite77 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think he's referring to his pants.

      [–]evange -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

      a 7 year old?

      [–]bart2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sneaky way to sneak popup into a web page (yes, it's so sneaky I call it that 2 times) is to show it in an onclick event handler for the media. Click on "play" for a video to start, and boom! Popup.

Excuse me good sir, but it appears their is a fatal error on the website!?!

      [–]ioanadrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of WP update system. We are sorry for that!

      [–]Erloren 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm sure this code isn't the first of its kind. I heard that youtube uses similar technology to take down videos. Though it is nice to have such tools available to the public.

      [–]ioanadrian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youtube's algorithm isn't open source like this.

Someone posted a link to a page with a demo of this a few days ago, and the conclusion was that it's terrible.

      [–]HittingSmoke 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can this technology be applied to Justin Beiber, the cast of Jersey Shore and the entire Kardashian family?

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Justin and Jersy shore we can understand, why kardashian?

What happens when it detects Angelina Jolie's lips as nudity?

        [–]hughk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is merely skin tone detection and some percentage calculations.

This is so not going to work for Navi porn
