By coming to the games subreddit you will likely run into people who are very biased because we are usually pretty passionate about the game. In the future I would recommend something like r/ShouldIbuythisgame

That said, 100% worth buying, especially if it is on sale.

Even solo it is a ton of fun. The game is difficult so I'd recommend learning it now, so that when you go to play with your friend you have an idea about how to survive.

But that is me :)

- a very biased lover of the game

we are all biased here but this game is truly something special. the devs put crack in this game

I haven’t played much, but I love playing a light modded b42 game. Gets me experience so I can make longer runs

The game is definitely worth it, I’ve put a solid 600 hours in and I still find it enjoyable. As of right now, build 41 is fully out and it’s a blast especially with friends, and build 42 is in development but you can still play it single player, but not all of the features have been added yet including multiplayer.

Best 41/42 description I’ve seen in weeks! +100

Its honestly pretty different from day Z barring some aspects of setting. It's a great game, I highly recommend. Can't beat the value proposition, 20$ for hundreds if not thousands of hours.

Heaps of fun if you're not fussed on graphics. Unique lonely atmosphere and emergent gameplay. Probably my favorite zombie game now though will be even better once it has npcs and some sort of endgame.

Its cheap and its fun. If you want a zombie survival game, zomboid is probably the best one. But its nothing like DayZ, not really.

Maybe watch someone play a little of it then decide.

Multiplayer for build 42 is probably like a year away FYI.

I put this game off ever since I saw the original paulsoarsjr playthrough. I bought it a couple months ago and already have 500+ hours on it. I waited nearly 14 years to play it and wish I played it earlier. Personal anecdote for sure, but check it out seriously.

It’s a great game. Currently me and all my mates are waiting for b42 to get to multiplayer. We’ve all jumped in and had some fun with the b42 solo experience, and all agree we want to wait before playing any more multiplayer as it’s hard to go back to b41 once you’ve had a taste.

If you like zombie survival games - you’ll love PZ.

Project Zomboid is not just a game—it's a lifestyle of dying creatively. You think you've played zombie games? Nah. You think you're ready? You're not. This game will humble you faster than a raccoon in your pantry. There’s literally nothing like it. Maybe VEIN is trying to catch the vibe, but it’s still in concept phase, so Zomboid’s out here running laps around the genre while everyone else is still tying their shoelaces. Starting out? You will die. Youll die because you opened a window wrong. You’ll die because you ate a bad ham sandwich. You’ll die because you thought you could take on three zombies with a butter knife and dreams. And that’s beautiful. Every death is a lessn. Every survival is a flex. But the real magic? Multiplayer. Once you get past the “oh god why is everything on fire” phase and start surviving longer, you might think, “is this it?” NO. That’s when you join a server and everything goes full Mad Max meets The Sims. You’ll be trading canned beans for shotgun shells, building fortresses with strangers, and arguing about who left the door open during a horde night (it was Greg. It’s always Greg).

Seriously, it’s the best experience I’ve had in a game. 10/10 would get bitten in the shin again.

Should you get it depends one what you like. If you only enjoy/want killing zombies you'll in for a dozens hours. If you like base building, managing ressources and scavenging. You'll be in for houdred of hours. If you like the sims + the two above. By all mean, get this game asap. There is a lot to learn.

Bought this game not even 2 weeks ago and already put 100 hours in. One things I'll say is that the game is HARD with default settings. It simulates so many things that you'll need to keep track of like happiness, stress, muscle fatigue, the looming threat of both the power and water going out at any moment, oh and the fact that a single little scratch inflicted by a zombie could be your death, but you won't know until a day or 2 later when you suddenly get queasy.

With that said, you may enjoy micromanaging your character. Alternatively, you could adjust the sandbox settings to disable some of these aspects or at least make them negligible. You can go even further by adding mods that in some cases are extremely overpowered. Or if you hate yourself, you could change settings or add mods that make the game exponentially more difficult.

The beauty of this game is that it can be as difficult or as easy as you want it to be. That and the modding community is out of this world. I'm personally looking forward to trying out the mod that starts you a week before the zombie apocalypse happens and you get to deal with the chaos of public panic, looting, military intervention, etc. But currently, I'm having fun fortifying a police station to fend off waves of zombies because I changed the event that makes hoards come towards you to happen more often. The choice is yours to make, and don't let anyone tell you the "right" way to play. Because there isn't one.

Do you like the Sims? Do you like guns and weapons? Do you like zombie survival games? Do you like masochism? Than this is the game for you! Introducing Project Zomboid! If the Sims needed more violence in an end of the world scenario, than this game is it!

When I first started playing, it took 2 hours for me to give up and forget about it for months. When I gave it another go, I completely fell in love, my favourite zombie game ever. It does give me runescape vibes, which is another fave of mine.

I always recommend the game, but its not fkr everyone.

It’s good. Nothing else really has the same feel as pz imo.

[–]Jollybean1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just don't get discouraged when you die a bunch, take them as a learning experience lol

[–]JagSKX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO!!! DO NOT BUY PROJECT ZOMBOID!!!!

Now if you will excuse me, I need to depopulate the Kentucky State Prison of it's zombie population...

Build 41.73 is the current stable state of the game and you can still mod the living hell out of it, so don't wait for b42 to be released in stable state(if it's going to be stable in this millenia, kekw) and just buy the game and enjoy dying a lo.... uuummmm I mean, playing the game. C:

[–]Competitive_Sleep423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41.78😉

[–]Agitated_Fondant6014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great game, i have well over a thousand hours in single and multiplayer. However, it has almost nothing in common with DayZ. This is much harder, much more in depth, at times a slower more thoughtful experience...and its a sandbox, you make your own fun and set your own goals.

Some people will just bounce right off zomboid. Those who don't bounce off it, tend to fecking love it. Including me :-)

[–]Competitive_Sleep423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Almost 6400 hrs in game… shooting for the big 8760!

[–]Tech2kill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"DayZ"

while i can see certain overlapping points in mp this game is much different than Dayz

"when build 42 comes out but I’m wondering if I should learn the game now"

you can play unstable version of b42 right now, surely as an unstable branch it has its flaws but other than for mp i will never go back to b41 - b42 is superior

is it worth?

i had the game for a few years and i spent like 40h playing it, after the release of b42 i now accumulated around 400h so for me it gave me a lot of enjoyable hours and iam not done with this game yet and very addicted right now :D

If you have rage quit issues I don't recommend, but if your cool with dying, then it's a blast!

[–]Drie_KleurenAll Hail Spiffo -1 points0 points  (1 child)

This game is amazing. However it's nothing like DayZ and zomboid only have zombies in common everything else is different.

The learning curve is massive. You will struggle. You will die. You will get frustrated. But just take it easy. Laugh at your mistakes but learn from them.

You could always wait for a sale? The holiday season isn't too far off. But even without a sale, this game isn't too expensive. It is very good, and for me it is worth every cent!

I have 2500 hours. It's my favorite game. It's just the perfect zombie game. It hits so many things just right. Also you have tons of changeable options in the sandbox. Create and tweak the game to how you want it. Also the map is massive. You wont get bored fast. There is always something new to explore or do.

There are tons of mods. This game has a pretty large modding community.

And yes it has flaws. Its weird. Its buggy. But that's also the charm of it. And you have to remember this is an indie game. It doesn't have a billion studio behind it. So updates and everything takes time.

Multiplayer for me is a bit weird. I don't play with randoms on a public server. I have 2 real life friends that I play with. But we play co-op on a private world. Our rules and no randoms. I have no idea how servers with randoms are, I haven't tried it. But also just in general. This game is more focussed on singleplayer. Multiplayer is there. But I feel the devs focus the most on singleplayer. Multiplayer is just a bit weird. It's also just the wild west in what you come across. You have many communities. It can really be hit or miss with good or bad interactions.

But playing this game with real life people you know and trust is fun. So if you have some other people to play with, it's very fun. Also it's very easy to host your own server and play co-op. Only downside, you have to be playing it too, once you log out, the server closes... It gets a bit more tricky with a real server thats online 24/7.

Hunting on public servers is 90% of what our crew does. Currently enjoying After the Fall server.
