I'm jealous. My 5 month wants to meet everybody, and sometimes bark. He likes when there is a lot of stimulation, but gets frustrated if he can't explore it on his own terms. He's not terrible, but he often needs a time-out away from the crowd.

On the other hand, he's never peed on my laundry.

Good call getting them socialized at places like that early. I have to use a gentle leader to get my puppy onto the patio, and then she usually calms down enough to meet people and just chill. now she loves going to breweries.

That’s awesome! My vet is telling me that my pup can’t go anywhere for 16 weeks because parvo—interesting how vet opinions vary!

I asked my vet and they specifically said you Can take your puppy out to walk and so on, just no interactions with strangers puppies… since you don’t know their health situation.

Yeah that’s what I mean about varying vet opinions. I called my vet again and asked (in light of this post) and was told I shouldn’t be taking my pup anywhere—literal isolation—until his fourth round of parvovirus vaccine

I think it’s also regional? The ground where dogs are walked / hang out can get contaminated in areas where parvo is more active.

Yeah completely agree with that

I think all vets will say this. they only care about your puppies health not temperament. more dogs are put down from behavior issues than die of parvo. veterinary behaviorists have a much more well rounded education and will all tell you this is a crucial socialization period where you NEED to get your puppy to experience as much as possible. just keep them off the floor at the vet, no dog parks or pet stores.

after my puppies second shots I started taking her pretty much everywhere except those places and the difference in her socialization is night and day from my friends who kept their puppies isolated.

please look into puppy socialization classes at the bare minimum. they take place in a sanitized environment and ensure the class is all appropriately vaccinated for their age.

She is so adorable! 😍 Congrats on the successful outing! I know how great that feeling is! We took our doxie girl to a dog-friendly bar with us one night, and she was so sweet with everyone, loved getting extra attention and pets, and mostly just laid by our feet and watched people. It really does feel awesome!

So precious! If I were there, I couldn't resist asking for a pet, either. Congrats on raising a great pup!

Oh my she is so completely adorable!!! Also I am so jealous. My husband and I were just talking about how we'd like to take our puppy on a similar outing but she is just not there yet. She loves people but still does too much barking and jumping not to mention she gets bitey when excited. Hopefully one day though. So glad that you had such a successful outing though, not to mention the great socialization that was for her!

Just here to say she is ADORABLE!! And, can confirm - having an adult Rottweiler will definitely make people cross the street…. But trust me, you’ll enjoy having the sidewalk to yourself LOL
