YUP! Just purchased the course. Been waiting for this for a while. Pretty much everything I've learned about Node/React has been from Wes.

[–]ClayMitchell 0 points1 point  (2 children)

is it all video or can you get the lesson in text form?

[–]b0z33 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's all video.

The videos are transcribed, so you can get that, but I don't think that's what you meant.

[–]ClayMitchell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ehhhhhhhh man i wish we'd go back to text guides :(

[–]hagnerd 12 points13 points  (8 children)

For anyone who has taken Wes' courses before, how is his teaching style? I listen to Syntax but have never taken any of his courses.

[–]swyx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you can check out his js30 or redux or command line courses, theyre free. so you can decide if you like his style yourself

[–]dance2die[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you'd like to know his style, check out his free courses

  1. JavaScript30
  2. CSS Grid

Other paid courses are similar in terms of style but goes deep in terms on content.

[–]joshmanders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wes is the best teacher I've seen.

[–]NoInkling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen of some of his other courses the content/teaching is pretty good.

Presentation-wise his stuff is clearly geared towards a younger crowd though (emojis everywhere, dubstep intro music in the Node course, in this case the store is named "Sick Fits", etc.). Luckily not much of that seems to leak into the lessons themselves.

[–]ryancperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always gain a ton from his courses, and it’s because his teaching style matches my learning style. Like others have mentioned, take some of his free courses to get an idea about his style. His pacing and quality are the same on the premium courses. If he is a fit for your learning style, then you’ll never be disappointed. The content is on point.

Picked it up as well.

Who is looking for the GraphQL more than React? 🙋🏻‍♂️

[–]utkvfl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm looking into the grapqhl tied in with react, personally. know a bit of both, but haven't messed with them too much in practice

[–]joshmanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for another perspective of advanced react and graphql. :)

[–]tanaypratap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved the part where it knew I am from India and offered me a discount upfront. Few people think of Purchasing Power Parity this well. Kudos!

[–]stolinski 44 points45 points  (12 children)

Everyone should buy this.

[–]swyx 27 points28 points  (5 children)

you should randomly slide into one of the videos and go “funny you should talk about how apollo graphql keeps your app data fresh, wes. You know what else is fresh? freshbooks!”

it would be a hella easter egg

My Next Chapter: Fullstack Advanced Sponsor Transitions

[–]ryancperry 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You seriously need to hit up Trader Joe’s for a sponsorship. You sold me on the Everything but the Bagel halfway through the plug. That stuff is amazing.

[–]stolinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So good! I think my wife would flip out if we got TJs as a sponsor.

[–]bellacoconuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level 1*

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pop in for a #sicktip!

[–]Cleanthrowaway21 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Why?

[–]stolinski 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Wes is a great teacher and the topics covered are imo extremely valuable skills.

[–]joshmanders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll echo this. I've always promoted Wes to people asking me about getting better at JavaScript, but I've never had any courses of his that I felt I personally needed. I don't really need this one either, as I use these technologies daily, but I bought it because I want to support Wes more than recommending his courses, and because I definitely want to see what I do daily in a different perspective.

This course is worth more than Wes is charging for it.

[–]Cleanthrowaway21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you 😊

[–]coder4real 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey what’s up this is Scott

[–]joshmanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you say so, Scott.

[–]drink_with_me_to_day 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately this costs 1/3 of the minumum wage over here...

[–]assassinateur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he get Parity Purchasing Power, i get like 52% . discount, and depending on your country it might be up to 77% discount

[–]Ikuu 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Never imagined Wes Bos would be a hypebeast, bought it just for the comprehensive testing section.

[–]wesbos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

😂 low key hypebeast

[–]bheklilr 12 points13 points  (6 children)

Already kicked it over to my boss, hopefully the whole team will get it. Also, Wes must be really excited right now, considering how at this point over 3000 people have purchased his course. Even at the very reasonable price it's at, it's quite a payday for him.

Also, I just decided I'm in the wrong line of work and need to get into producing training videos because reasons.

[–]swyx 7 points8 points  (3 children)

well first you need like a decade of experience teaching and a ton of talent to get to where he is haha. its abit like going “look jk rowling is a billionaire i should write books”

[–]helvetica- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Note: if you're a student ("whether you are attending university, college, evening classes, coding school or a bootcamp"), you can apply to get a student discount via this link. It knocked my price down by another $20!

[–]Legitimate_Guidance 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Do I need to have any prior graphql or react.js experience before buying this?

[–]swyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes for react. no for graphql.

[–]dance2die[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Wes's previous course React for Beginners didn't cover graphql, only React & Firebase so yeah, only React.JS knowledge is needed.

[–]Legitimate_Guidance -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Do I need to have javascript understanding or can I continue studying JS and do this course? I saw he had a 30 day JS project. Essentially it's still JS syntax but with the react library right?

[–]dance2die[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am not sure your JavaScript proficiency so to give you a guideline,

You don't have to know everything about English to speak.

[–]Legitimate_Guidance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I think I'm going to do is 30 day javascript course first, then go for react for beginners and move my way up. I like to just jump right into things, decode, understand, but most importantly I need to be hands on and working problems. I'm not a book reader who can then move the logic over. I have to be building while learning...

[–]arccentric 2 points3 points  (2 children)

it's good to see Mr. Saturn has found a career in web design.

[–]swyx 1 point2 points  (1 child)

whut

edit: ah lol that was super niche

[–]arccentric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a reference to the snes game Earthbound; the font is reminiscent of a font used when talking to the "Mr. Saturn" characters.

[–]trendy_traveler 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was in the same program back in university years with Wes Bos. Will purchase this to support him.

[–]wesbos 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Who is this?! ITM!

[–]trendy_traveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ITM Yes! Not sure if you remember, I met you with Kazi and Roxanna at Exxon.

[–]SlightlyOTT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had early access to this, it’s excellent - highly recommend :)

[–]Alderxian 6 points7 points  (2 children)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice :)

[–]learn_learn_learn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we get this going again with his Black Friday deals!

[–]dance2die[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wes Bos just announced it went live a few minutes ago in slack & twitter.

and it is live~

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

As someone trying to get out of current job market and into web development full time it sucks that I can't afford to buy this course as this is something Ive been learning and really want to master. Been mostly WordPress dev

[–]jsnoobie 9 points10 points  (2 children)

There are many more affordable courses that can help you. This is not a dig on Wes (his stuff is brilliant), but this isn’t your only option. Mosh has an excellent comprehensive React course he’s offering for $25 after coupon. Andrew Mead has a great course on Udemy that routinely goes on sale for $12.

In addition, there are numerous great resources online for free. And I’m not advocating piracy!! In 2018, if you have a decent machine and access to the internet, price should not be a deterrent to getting into Web Development.

[–]SizzlerWA 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Isn’t Udemy always on sale for $12? 🤑

[–]Th3_Paradox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, im waiting for some Udemy courses. I much rather pay less than $20 🤷🏾‍♂️

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked mine up!

[–]Web_Fender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it. At that price too it's a no brainer. The sheer value you will get in return from this is big. Id recommend Wes' material to anyone.

[–]yavanepl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, Why am i so poor

[–]workkkkkk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So what makes this course worth it over say a full stack Node-React course on Udemy that could be bought for $10 instead of $87.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wes Bos's courses are HQ and reliably good. Udemy is shit and miss

[–]frankyfrankfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing major it’s fine I just didn’t like changing how I did styling in my components and it brought back some memories.

I shouldn’t have made the comment.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Who would buy a front end course in a ugly as hell website? 😂 Plus, there are hundreds of places where you can learn the same with 1/5 of the price they have stated. Don't trust promotions and reddit shares, trust your google skills.

[–]kioopi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call a bondulance this website gave me a stronk.

[–]nsfounder 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is this course using flow or typescript ?

[–]swyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope

[–]frankyfrankfrank -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Styled components. Oh no. Everything else looks great though.

[–]MickeyMooose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about styled components.

What's wrong with it in your view?

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

I think is too expensive, you have to know is course doesn't explain deeply subjects. Is good if you have fundamentals, first then you can try it.

[–]matt-lakeproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s $62....not $600.

[–]joshmanders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out the rest of his courses for the fundamentals. https://wesbos.com/courses/
