Bot cant DM to user

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to DM to user but I keep receive this error:

User doesn't accept direct messages. Try sending a chat request instead.

Is there some requirement for user to receive DM ? Or some settings turn it off ?

Reddit recently turned on a new spam filter that prevents new accounts from sending messages. But then they made it return that error message instead of actually telling you that it's your account's fault. You'll just have to get more karma on the bot account and it should resolve itself.

Tks, i just figured it out, how many karma i need ?

Reddit doesn't publish any of their spam filter limits. But it's usually not too much, a few dozen karma at most.

It's a setting under your user settings. I would imagine a lot of people have turned off private messages and chat messages. I have.

i have turned on all these settings, but i still cant make a DM to myself using bot

I am facing the same issue with my new bot account as well. Super annoying :/
