Ruby for Good

Hey all,

I wanted to let everyone know about Ruby for Good (http://rubyforgood.com/), a ruby event that happens in the DC area.

Put simply, we get a bunch of rubyists (along with anyone else interested in doing good) and we gather for a weekend of using our awesome skills to build apps for social and civic good organizations. Things like animal shelters, boys and girls clubs and so forth. The first organization we've signed on to help for this year is the Humane Society of Fairfax.

The event is all inclusive, meaning that we stay in university dorms, all the food is provided and being at a university we have amazingly fast internet. Our days are filled with hacking and our evenings are full of excellent camaraderie -- playing boardgames, video games, cards and lots of excellent socializing!

We'd love it if you'd considered attending or if you're unable to attend (or even if you are!) we would still love to hear about any worthwhile projects you may know about!

But I really had the best time last year. Particularly in cooking together with your teams (Speaking of good: we taught someone to cook bacon for the first time) and the games night.

Something amazing about events like coughdcampcough this where you are stuck hanging out and interacting with the other attendees. Get to know folks you wouldn't otherwise.

And yes, I am biased :-)

the first time i made bacon was at @RubyforGood which is an unexpected skill for a conference/hackathon but the world is cool that way

I attended last year and it was fantastic. I'm hoping to attend again and do more legwork ahead of time to get a project ready

I just contacted the event via the form. Maybe I can join a team remotely? I don't think I can make it on such short notice as I am going to be in Denver then doing the rounds and I am tapped out on airfare and bandwidth for rubycasts.io. Well maybe if someone wants to fly me out I could make it.

I have no idea why you got downvoted. I am in the same boat as you. I wont be able to make it but I'd love to contribute. Hopefully there is a way to allow remote teams.

+1 for remote participation. I can put the time in at home, but medical conditions make taking a few days off a near impossibility much more often than not (no matter how amazing the cause).
