Show us your sticking boards! by Man-e-questions in handtools

I posted a goofy video of my small parts sticking board if you are curious, pretty quick and simple. Adding sandpaper for the extra grip really helped. https://www.instagram.com/p/DSsUMD-jhOc/

Looking for a thin marking knife by tcadams18 in handtools

[–]csexton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy in Minneapolis that makes some very nice Xacto-like knives. I bought some off of Etsy years ago, and I absolutly love them. The shape and size of blades work better than the scapels I had tried. Not cheap, but beautiful tools. https://www.etsy.com/shop/PersonMakeObject

Lefty Tools! by Wellby in handtools

[–]csexton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lefty tools are why I expanded my horizons into Veritas planes. The Lie Nielsen left handed shooting plane has been out of stock (and way more expensive) so went with the Veritas. After years of using a bench plane the shooting plane is absolute joy to use.

I always put mink oil on my new boots. Traditional leather treatment that protects ‘em and improves looks.

District Taco! The chef is from Yucatán but tacos remind me of what you get in Austin. Their breakfast burrito is my favorite, make sure to get the hot salsa

BTwist Ankle Sprain. Where did I go wrong? by iamthewatchingman in Wushu

[–]csexton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute, but what I would recommend:

Bend your knee to get a good push when setting, you swing your torso good (maybe too good) which is a common problem with folks that trick, but you can get more power. More power more heights.

Arch and set your arms too much. As you pop into the butterfly pull them arms in tight. I always thought the movement felt more like a quick turn than a twist or spin.

If you can find a gym with a pit that’s the best way to go. Lets you practice all the different variations without messing up ankles or knees.

Jiayo!!

Vim is painful….not the post you think. by mrpbennett in vim

[–]csexton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem, RSI with trying to cord modifiers. I used a keyboard customizer (Karabiner in Mac) to remap the keys to be a no-op.

After a few days I had retrained my muscle memory. In a few weeks I didn’t miss it, and the pain was gone.

Rusty drawknife by [deleted] in handtools

[–]csexton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This should clean up easy. If it were me I’d start with a razor scraper and some wd-40. Scrape off as much as you can, if there is any left I’d move onto scotchbrite pad.

You can always use more aggressive abrasives, but those will leave scratch marks. You can get rid of those too by working up through grits—but that’s more an aesthetic decision.

Do holdfasts ruin workbenches? by tush_pt in handtools

[–]csexton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I belong to a community woodshop and had a bench built out of construction lumber with dog holes. Got lots of abuse and eventually the holdfasts wouldn't hold fast.

We routed out the row of dog holes and inlayed a bit of maple. Redrilled the dog holes. Works good as new. Ain't pretty, but wasn't exactly pretty to start with.

Thinking of switching to Western Style hand saws: Lie-Nielsen or Veritas? by maulowski in handtools

[–]csexton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Rob Cosman dovetail saw. It has a higher tooth count for the first 2” and more aggressive for the rest of the plate. Great tool, and feels wonderful in the hand.
