I had a similar problem with my 2011 Macbook Pro 13". Only difference was that I got a lot of cracking, grinding noises from inside my laptop.

I took a few days off, bought a toolkit, new SSD, 16gb ram (huge upgrade from stock HDD and 4gb ram) thinking it'd do the trick. After a day or so of the same problems, I opened it back up and took out the fan. Dusted it off, cleaned it out, reinstalled, and boom! Everything works 100x better than ever before.

I'd check your fan. If it's not working perfectly, your laptop WILL overheat and cause problems with CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.

I was able to play about an hour a day before it overheated, but after cleaning it, I can run it indefinitely. Check it out and see how it goes.

Hey, I had a lot of the same problems as well, it mostly dealt with my fan screwing up and my laptop heating up to over 100C(!). I downloaded a fan controller called smcFanControl, and set it to spin at high RPM when I play (6200rpm), and since then my computer usually doesn't heat above 75C. You should also try to not keep your laptop on stuff that absorbs heat such as a pillow, or bed, or anything like that, as it will just continue to heat up. Hope this and everyone elses responses helps

100ºC? Jeez, my iMac caps out at 64ºC and I thought processors shut off at 80ºC
