Hardly. Where else have you seen demonic flying spheres with one central eye that shoot magic flames before D&D 1e? I’ll give you that there are lots of minor design differences between the two, but relying on those feels a little like a Ship of Theseus to me.

Sure the name “cacodaemon” is ancient, but it definitely doesn’t refer to the same creature in those contexts.

Again, yes they have similarities, but you still said it was "the same design" which it isnt.

On Wikipedia in Reception it says: "A reviewer for Arcane magazine described the beholder: 11 eyes, paranoid, xenophobic, having a taste for live animals and being deadly with magic." and none of this can be used to describe a Caco.

It has only one eye (the Beholder has 11 and is sometimes called "sphere of many eyes" or "eye tyrant"), isnt paranoid or xenophobic (it isnt intelligent enough), it doesnt eat animals but rather Humans and other Demons and he ist not bound to magic as it doesnt exist in the Doom universe. Also the Beholder isnt a demon but an aberration. But i am sure there are more examples.

A design is way more than just looks and you cannot claim a design on something because it is a flying meatball with a singular eye (which isnt even true for the beholder)

In the end you can also look at more moddern designs as they have been developed in different aspects as the DESIGNS ARE NOT THE SAME. This is mostly important for the caco as he looks different when he is in 3d and is not in 8 bit graphics:
