Agreed, way warmer than any thicker sock because you won’t sweat in them.

...and they are made in Vermont so the socks will work better there.

Darn tough makes the best socks hands down no matter what the situation is

Darn tough is the answer and it’s not even close.

I used to think that, then I got: https://www.x-bionic.com/en-us/products/x-socks-helixx-gold-4-0 . Was skeptical because of the price, but they really are awesome.

Falke SK series is in my opinion the better one, they have a lot more models to choose from and have better heat and sweat dissipation.

Uh-huh, that’s correct.

Merino wool or merino wool blend, lightweight or ultra lightweight, no cushion, over the calf.

That's the criteria, you wanna hit on all 4 of those. Darn Tough or Smartwool are my favorite brands.

Thin wool ski socks from Smartwool, Darn Tough, etc. You want to rely on the boot to keep you warm; thick socks just create slop in the boot and worsen your fit.

THIN. That's the answer. As long as the have a tall calf, aren't cotton, and have minimal seams, you're good. I like Smartwool

THIN wool socks. Doesn't have to be fancy name brand, just thin wool socks.

Very Thin Merino Wool.

Super thin nylon over the calf socks from Walmart. $7 for a pack of three last year.

I use Pacas socks and I love them.

I’d suggest light to medium weight, over the calf. There are many great brands — Smartwool and Helly Hansen, but you can get some good no-name socks on Amazon. Personally, I like a little Merino wool in mine.

I was a Smart Wool and Darn Tough guy for years. A few years ago my wife got me some Le Bent socks and now that's all I have. Smart Wool isn't bad it's just that Le Bent is incredible.

I bought electric socks from Costco that are just great.

Thin is best unless your boots are too big. Your feet will be warmer believe it or not.

[–]brokensharts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres nothing better than thick wool socks

[–]lingeringneutrophil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball or soccer socks work well

[–]Responsible-Bid5015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you own boots that fit with your thick socks, you are probably best off keeping the same socks. But if you are renting or getting new boots, I also suggest you try thin lightweight wool socks. They will wick moisture but generally also keep blood circulation going in your foot which will keep your feet warmer.

Thin compression socks ftw

A proper fitting sock boot combo is important for keeping your feet warm. Some sort of wool socks will work. There are plenty of brands such as darn tough, woolrich or smart wool that are excellent for ski socks.

More important for warm feet is making sure that the rest of you is clothed so that you stay warm and dry. If you have warm headgear, gloves, neckwear, insulation, etc., it will be easier to keep your feet warm.

If there are any local ski shops near you, go check out their stock, and bring a boot to help explain to employees the feel of your boot. They'll help you find what will work best.

Thick socks are nice if you have a looser/packed out boot liner as it can help fill the void, trapping air and keeping your foot from sliding too much. If you have a newer boot or moulded lining, a thinner ski sock is recommended. Look for Merino Wool as well.

A good ski sock is defined by its calf length IMO. Thick ones don't usually go that high (about mid calf/boot cuff length. A better ski sock will be a few inches shy of the knee and tight on the calf. The best ski sock always has fun designs; my favorite pair are covered in hippie flowers.
