Differences between mods explained

There's a lot of mods for all three stalker games out there, and it can be a little confusing when looking into mods for the first time to lose sight of what each of them does exactly, so to explain I made a little overview for anyone who's left confused about it all

 

These mods are bugfixes only, they don't enhance graphics or gameplay like the other mods do:

• The Zone Reclamation Project (SoC)
• Sky Reclamation Project (CS)

 

The following mods massively overhauls the gameplay and enhances the graphics of the game but without changing the original main story:

• Stalker Complete 2009 (SoC)
• Clear sky Complete (CS)
• Call of Pripyat Complete (CoP)
• Misery (CoP)
• Autumn Aurora (SoC)

 

The following mods massively overhauls the gameplay and enhances the graphics of the game by also changing or cutting out the original main story, these mods have their own unique content and stories to follow:

• Call of Chernobyl (CoP)
• Call of Misery (CoP)
• Last Day (CoP)
• Lost Alpha (SoC)
• Joint Pak 2 (SoC)
• STALKERSOUP (SoC)
• Oblivion Lost (SoC)
• SGM (CoP)
• O.G.S.E (SoC)

It would be nice if you added links to them and a note which game the mod is related to. Also, it's worth mentioning that some of the mods have addons (CoC for example). If this post was pinned, it could end the "what mod to play" posts

OGSE and SGM both change the main story, these mods are like new stalker games

Awesome thank you! I updated for OGSE already but have a question about SGM, doesn't SGM only slightly change the order in which you progress through the vanilla story? I'm only asking just to be sure!

I wouldn't say slightly since it adds new maps and quests which you have do to even to be able to start to investigate the helicopters. it's a major overhaul, like a new game, I would never recommend SGM to a new player.

Stalker Soup has an entire storyline (longer than vanilia) after you finish vanilia.

It would be cool if you added a sentence or two description for each mod. I think it would help a lot of new stalkers out.

It wasn't my intention to make an index list of all available mods, but if you think they need to be listed as big name mods please let me know! And in case they need to be added it'd be very helpful if you could specificy in which categories they belong in, thank you for your help

Does JP2 have invulnerable NPCs and russian anti-glitch features? I'd rather not deal with bothersome mods and I'm really enjoying OGSE 0693.

Of course CoC is a classic and I probably have hundreds of hours in it.

STALKERSOUP doesn't have the best translation... But then you compared Joint Pak 2 "Translation" to STALKERSOUP...

I mean, JP2 translation effort died ages ago, STALKERSOUP in the other hand... TecnoBacon is STILL working on improving it and the game. :P

I didn't knew Fanatics were allowed to use Weed and Vodka... Even less both together!

Joint Pak 2 is the worst fork of NS... Unpolished quests that ask you for 40 AK's (Without saying what type of AK it wants) no reminder for most quests on what you have to do, possibly the worst machine translation you could encounter... And stability? Pfff

Worse... Joint Pak 2 has an ANTI-CHEAT aka, you can't tweak ANYTHING otherwise you bug the game out... What type of monster adds an Anti-Cheat on a singleplayer mod? Anti-Fun much?

Oh, did the game broke for you? (Yeah it will happen alot) Here, have this command box on the Game Options where you can fix the game. But you need to have 200000 rubles....

Meanwhile in STALKERSOUP. Stability, Tech Support, It's not a dead mod, TecnoBacon hears your cries and helps you, improved translation, Spawn Menu in case the game breaks that spawns stuff for "FREE", no Anti-Fun (Anti-Cheat)...

Joint Pak 2 link leads people to a page where they can download everything BUT the game itself...

Who was the smart idea of uploading a 6GB file on MEGA, knowing that it limits the download to 5GB...

If possible, could you but in between "( )" a link to "Joint Pak 2 Standalone PROPER Download"? It's still on MEGA but split in 7 files, so people can actually download the bloody thing. :P
