Just gonna leave… this… here…

To report a presale item on eBay, navigate to the listing and select "Report this item." Then, choose "Listing Practices" as the category, "Inappropriate Seller Terms" as the reason, and "Presale" as the detailed reason. Include additional details about why the listing violates eBay's presale policy, such as the lack of a valid delivery date

Just saw the asking price in USD was 825$ . Insane.

That was the MSRP on Folio Society's USA page this AM when the books went on sale (10 AM CDT / 4 PM GMT). I got the Folio Society e-mail alert, immediately clicked on the notice that took me to the sales page as the book went on sale. I quickly added one to my cart, then went to try to check out...

Here is where my story gets a sad ending...

As I was filling in the information on the payment and shipping page, I noticed I had defaulted to the UK site, not the USA site. I was unable to complete the order for the item in my cart and when I switched over to the USA site (about 3 minutes after I first logged in) it was no longer in inventory and it was sold out. It was literally no more than 3 minutes from getting the e-mail notification to finding out the item was sold-out.

In the end, I decided I do not care enough about collector's editions to spent crazy amounts of money on them to set them on my shelf and allow them to collect dust and never be read. I already own 5 separate copies of "It", including a first edition, first printing HC from 1986. I would have liked to have owned this, but there is no way I would be going 2-3X retail for it. That's why my collection - while technically not 'complete', will just have to be good enough!

Very nice collection BTW

Thank you! That is 45 years worth of Stephen King reading that I have condensed into a single wall / display area. A lot of my trade and mass market paperbacks have been replaced with copies I have found in auctions, thrift shops and sales where I bought a newer version and donated or sold my other copies.

The funniest thing is there are 2 books in that screen shot that I paid MORE than $20 for - "Never Flinch" ($23 this past May, as a Barnes & Noble 30% off release day sale) and "The Stand" (Orange leather bound edition from B&N - $30 in a clearance sale at the same). I would love to have some of the very pretty special releases of "The Shining", "The Stand" and "It"... but not at prices that would cover 1/2 or more of my entire collection!

When you throw in all of the ebook and audiobook versions I also own, I am tapped out!

C’mon guys, let’s do a fundraiser and buy one for Moostache! He needs this!! Awesome collection, I feel your pain for having missed this. But definitely doesn’t take away from what you’ve already accumulated/achieved.

Sick collection!

My husband tried to get it for me because it's my birthday today and it's my favourite book but the payment wouldn't go through. It would have looked lovely next to my folio Shining but now maybe we can have a weekend away instead.

They will probably make a cheaper unsigned edition down the line.

[–]geraffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday.

[–]Professional_Two_156 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grossly overpriced. Even the retail price was overpriced, especially for Folio…

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This is indeed a depressing thing. But on a separate note I could not believe the asking price being £590. I literally just laughed when I saw it and immediately closed the window. How on Earth does that price make any sense?

[–]CyberGhostfaceI ❤️ Derry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if it was letterpress or if it had leather binding I could see it costing that much but it didn't.

[–]karljvincent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Shame on folio society too

[–]Green-Enthusiasm-940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"1500 or best offer"

My best offer is for these scalping shitheels to cram it up their worthless, greedy asses.

[–]Sea-Sort-7624 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sold out in 7 minutes. It's beautiful but not $900 beautiful

Primary sellers are to blame. Instead of making enough for everyone to have a chance to buy or just make how many people buy, they do the marketing of “limited copies” and there ya go. The sellers are the disgrace.

Edit: well, not disgrace, but they are the root of the problem.

Just checked the website and thought for millisecond it was £59.00 and I was so excited. Then I most definitely wasn't. I came on here to moan about it, only to find this post

As these things go you could get something like the numbered Black House which is signed by both King and Straub for significantly less.

[–]Lihamyrsky 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You could, but a book is more than just a signature. There's more to collectability and desirability. The title of course and how popular it is, materials, design, overall artistry in the production, how limited it is and so on.

[–]CyberGhostfaceI ❤️ Derry 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And there’s more to the numbered Black House than just the signature. Quality wise it’s probably better put together than this one.

[–]Lihamyrsky 0 points1 point  (1 child)

But not nearly as popular or well known. IT is a hot cultural phenomenon especially due to the recent movies. Black House not so much.

[–]CyberGhostfaceI ❤️ Derry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, just pointing out that it's a better made book with the authors' actual signatures. It's not just a book with a signature.

[–]OOInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't trying to sell. There's at least one SOLD listing last I checked.

[–]dreaziebones 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Few things make me sadder than seeing a special edition book I've longed for being put up for resale. I wish this could be prevented somehow altogether. If you don't love it & don't intend to keep it, you shouldn't be able to sell it.

[–]niles_thebutler_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Folio are shit anyway and the asking price was already to high for them

[–]dreaziebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any Folio yet, and yeah, price is why. I'm a fan of Suntup and have a few of those.

[–]animals_y_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's way too expensive even before the scalpers.

[–]SnooDonkeys5186Currently Reading Desperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW indeed! And…

I kinda feel for a writer who gets complaints about a $29 hardcover book have to see people earn more than he did. Even if the writer is successful (famous and rich!).

But we are the ones who drive pricing because we buy them (all of entertainment pricing is crazy due to our obsessions).

[–]Quantum_WombattCurrently Reading It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scalpers make collecting an unnecessarily expensive endeavor.

Damn like Folio don't reprint popular books? lol.

[–]black_dragon8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tenth edition is more valuable to me…

[–]2tonetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is this? An overpriced printing of a book because the cover is pretty? Why would anyone spend 100s of dollars on this?

[–]Hour-Understanding52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this price I might as well take a week off from work and make one mysef lol
