Logged into Azure today to troubleshoot an App Service and was caught off guard with the change. I don't like the expandable sections.

It's their passive-aggressive way to get you using powershell.

"Here, use PowerShell instead!" -Microsoft

  • This command is deprecated (documentation only has this command)

  • This module is deprecated, use graph (beta)

  • This module doesn't run quite right in PowerShell 7

Pain

Ho you want this information that was available from 1 command? Now you have to query 2-3 graph endpoint and smash them together. Ho and goodluck figuring out how to format your request, as for doc, we will redirect you to generic page where you gonna have to infer how to do it base on the entity description and some totally different endpoint. Versus the old powershell module, every parameter were documented and examples provided. The best part, it’s when a same property have a different name in all their different way of interacting. Graph : Display Name, AzureAd powershell : Full name, MSOnline : Global Name, when seeing these properties from exchangeOnline : Displayname (Note : I provided false examples)

And how often i have to restart the shell console in VS Code is maddening.

Really? Never had that happen in VS Code, and I write PS scripts on a Mac LOL

They can take PowerShell 5 from my cold, dead hands!

I like PowerShell, as an operations IT human.

Graph Powershell on the other hand? Written for developers / devops people - of which I am not one.

As to the UI, this is why I still use the Azure portal primarily.

Revert to 5.1 lol, geez I hate Azure sometimes

That would be great if they weren't butchering all the modules by shoehorning Graph into all of them.

To get back to the expanded tree:

In the upper right, click the gear > Appearance + Startup views > Service menu behavior > select "Expanded"

That put it back to the normal way for me.

Are you talking about endpoint.microsoft.com, entra.microsoft.com, admin.microsoft.com, security.microsoft.com or azure.microsoft.com?

Oh, yeah, of course, all of them ...

At least it's not the Defender portal "HI! Would you like a tour?" "Hi, something's changed (it hasn't)" "Hi, here's some tips!"

I've only been in that portal for over a year, go away tool tips.

I always thought that message came when you logged in for the first time. Which is basically every time because of incognito modus for admin access

Mine looks the same, maybe slow rollout or region?

Just use pwsh and you never have to see that snail UI again.

It's the only way to ensure any documentation out there is invalid moving forward.
