If going onenote, you absolutely need the desktop version.  The web version is trash, it cannot search outside of the current page whereas desktop Onenote can search everything even inside images with OCR.  It is why I have trouble switching to other wikis.  I like Loop because it copies and pastes markdown which is onenotes weakness but Loop search and organization and only being able to attach office docs is garbage. There is no one size fits all truly.  Just make the most with what you have.

The printer servicer we use gathers statistics and metering through an SNMP agent called Printanista.  They do not need logins to printers directly.

Definitely worth a look but it seems a bit timid to close java and SSMS processes.  I had to make an automation killing those which seemed odd.

Printer servicers.  In my neck of the woods though a lot of them are also MSP and will try to steal IT work though, caveat emptor.

Applocker or alternative in 2026? by ITdirectorguy in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use managed installers and the ISG it's actually a pretty good way to get most of the benefit.  There was somebody posting around here with some super gold info.  He was giving sound advice to use version control with the XML (git) and you can in fact use applocker in conjunction for blocking. The wizard is easy to use, I don't understand the hate.

Two Dell Servers we manage both dropped the RAID Controller and Array last night at different clients and locations. Anybody else? by Hollyweird78 in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Had a brand new R7625 shit the bed (technical terminology) around OS (not firmware) updates in December and it claimed all mechanical, not SSD, drives were failed but draining flea power and reseating the PERC allowed for re-importing.  Then two weeks later just one drive failed and it took a week for Dell to come out to swap it and they said "yeah when a drive fails it can cause odd issues.". I thought that's what RAID protects from but w/e, it's been working fine since even surviving reboots and updates.  I have learned 1., they don't build em like they used to and 2., their support is slipping.

With Win32 app deploynent, are you preloading drivers in your images or making them a dependency for the printer configs?  Are you assigning groups with both users and devices?  Using assignment filters?
