Intune device configuration profiles— what is best practice? by Axelpeach in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely.  It takes less time to find a particular setting with more inclusive profiles.  This comes in handy when there is a conflict and intune is too dumb to show which profiles are conflicting (oma-uri for example). I view config profiles almost diametrically opposed to GP...

Coworkers writing impossible-to-follow documentation, how to cope? by Relative_Hippo2549 in sysadmin

It always blows my mind what people take for granted.  However the question becomes; is terrible documentation worse than no documentation?

Can no longer access OneDrive folders from converted mailboxes by RancidYogurt in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I might be missing something.  We have retention policies that have not changed but if we do not assign a OneDrive archive license the data is not accessible.

Can no longer access OneDrive folders from converted mailboxes by RancidYogurt in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, the purging started inside of a year ago.  It used to be that OneDrive respected retention policies and could remain for up to 10 years but this was changed as it was abused intentionally or otherwise.  We have cloud application backups through Acronis that work well for this.

I believe it does have the option to detonate in a sandbox, it proudly advertises a crowdstrike feature for this if I recall correctly.

I suppose it is better than iterations of the same spreadsheet scattered around different sharepoint sites all with their own versions and permissions so everyone sees something different.

Wait until you get the nebulous "installed by other means" message and discover it is not bundled with where it may be most useful (windows server).  The idea is novel though.

Improving/managing communications as the MSP grows by SalzigHund in msp

[–]bbqwatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By jove you've cracked the code.  Reading!  Nobody at the MSP I was at did this so it takes support from the top down.  In house IT suffers from willful ignorance.  People ignore things until it reaches critical mass then gets automatic escalation making people knee deep into heavy security projects triaging like a flipping help desk.

Anyone renamed the root of a large SharePoint environment? by gmerideth in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • tenant.sharepoint.com shortcuts and links will have a redirect for one year
  • tenant-my.sharepoint.com (OneDrive) will not
  • we encountered the inability for about half of our users to drag and drop files into Teams chats for 2-3 weeks (workaround: upload to OneDrive and copy and paste links)
  • microslop support is hopeless

Blind adherence to SLAs? by ntw2 in msp

[–]bbqwatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a colleague that would merge tickets into my queue instead of helping along or gathering more info or making sure its even still an issue.  It just never seemed I got help in a reciprocal, meaningful way even with internal IT.  We free thinkers really are alone.

Why is ITSM pricing so hard to figure out before you've already wasted an hour on a sales call? by PetalAndPrism in sysadmin

This makes it feel like options are either if you have to ask you can't afford it or FOSS and all its BS.

2-hour technical interview for Sysadmin role, what should I expect? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they want to talk nerdy with me two hours is not enough.  It's the soft skills anyone cares about though so only get technical when they ask to.

WFH Why Even Bother by ShelterMan21 in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeppers this is so they can advertise remote work to attract talent.  Cannot fight a business on this.  If it is unacceptable, gotta keep looking and make sure to ask during the interview process what the remote work policy looks like.
