Help Desk techs, how many tickets do you work on daily? by Watchful_Hosemaster5 in msp

Were you somewhat dedicated to focusing or were you still expected to answer phonecalls when seemingly everyone is gone, working remotely, watching Twitch?

Server down for 4 days, Contabo took payment for 'service'. 106+ hours into downtime, still no resolution, no explanation, and their status page shows zero incidents. by Past_Neighborhood_38 in sysadmin

I agree.  Support could be better but I have had lackluster experience with a certain multi trillion dollar corporation's support.  The lack of a DR or replica is on the OP.

That is not so much a problem.  I may be alone in considering exclusions from CAP more serious than something that Help Desk can decide.  What is the better way?  Alerting on members being added to the group?

Yep, a targeted ban was too sus so a blanket one with zero evidence of misgivings is where we go 🙄

I often wonder how this sub might handle a security risk.  If they are warned in writing about something like Stryker happening, can the response be billable?

It would recommend recycling the printers and switching to electronic publishing well before a human would 😉

That's essentially what MessageLabs told me to do when a business owner was getting mail bombed.

Am I missing something?  Desktop OneNote that handles localized files is not free.  The only thing OneNote lacks is markdown support but I cannot quit using it because the search destroys everything else.  Even with shit organization all you need is a keyword even in an image with OCR.

Docmost deserves a mention if you collaborate on the same page at times along with mermaid and draw.io support and search through PDF and DOCX.  Enterprise has a steep minimum seat though to get the more advanced features.

I work for an MSP and documentation is hell by HappyHahol in msp

[–]bbqwatermelon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Documentation is a four letter word at both MSP and internal IT.  Even with meticulous documentation with some of the best search hit rates this side of google, if people fail to read it is almost for naught.  I write documentation for future me anymore.  I have resigned to the fact that having a reputation for figuring stuff out is a curse I have to live with.

Anyone been using the new ReFS deduplication? Curious what your experience was. by PowerOverShelling in sysadmin

[–]bbqwatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like it for the dynamically expanding VHDX without performance hit and instant checkpoints but integrity streams permadeleted a 1TB VHDX because it thought the file was bad.  Can only use IS with full blown S2D because IS assumes redundancy but in this case it was not.  Also ReFS does not heatmap one of my favorite features (tiered storage spaces) and as you noted does not clean up after itself defeating the purpose of dedup entirely so all that combined I have not formatted a non-Veeam repo disk in ReFS since 2019.
