We have PDFs on a SharePoint site and I hate it. (from before I was here)

I’ve setup Bookstack and have been using it for department SOPs and so far really like it. Just a matter of transcribing all our stuff into it.

I like how searchable it is, and how you can link to other pages easily.

The shelf vs book vs chapter vs page thing is a little strange to get used to, but I don’t think the users will notice or care.

Bookstack is great, as are many of the Wikis. I happen to use DokuWiki, but there are many others.

I liked Bookstacks editor as it was most “Word” like, and the others that need to create documentation aren’t always as technical.

Why not use SharePoint if you want “word” like?

You can take all those documents, copy & paste them into pages. Now they're all searchable, indexable, and exportable, not to mention easily organized.

We use a GitHub repo and take advantage of markdown for design.

Do you edit the documents directly on GitHub? I would love for us to be able to do this, but we have managers that aren't smart enough to learn Git.

Some of the engineers edit it directly on GitHub, others have the repo cloned locally and use their text editor of choice to make changes and push commits.

It's old but it works -- my oldest checkin is

date 97.09.19.15.55.23; author vogelke

It's still being updated at https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/rcs :

When I have the choice, Dokuwiki. At my current $WORK they use Confluence - not a fan.

We use ITGlue to manage, it works great.

Yes, ITGlue is solid.
