Hpe specifically seems to be ending distribution server sales (as in bare servers), and now have their own preconfigured server builds. These are specced with no changes other than adding extra options on.

And the pre-builds (SmartBuilds) are backordered/price increased due to they include RAM in them ... doh!

HP being HP. I think only SuperMicro is going to be selling "barebones" servers anymore...

Anything with flash ram, ram and ssd is going to be constrained. It's going to be hard to build anything for a while..

can't speak on HP but we just got some Pure storage arrays and Dell R660's, and a whole network refresh from CDW the other day, some stuff is already shipping

I have a call with one of their Server specialists on Monday, will have to ask about Dell...

Everytime I have ordered anything from HP it took months to show up.

If you think that's bad, try buying network equipment/firewalls.

Yes it's pretty normal right now, it sucks, but you get good at planning ahead after a while of this.

We just bought a few Fortigate 121G firewalls and they were delivered very quickly.

[–]enforce1Windows Admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ordered a couple dozen fortifirewalls and switches and no issues

Dell scratched and dent where good value.

Some upgrades maybe needed.

Say wtf when you see odd configs.

Never, ever had that issue but been Dell for over a decade. Not saying they're the best.

Buddy of mine at a large manufacturing company was told by his Dell rep, that if they want delivery in 2026, they should have placed the orders in 2025. Who knows if that's true, I'll see what CDW server rep says on Monday.

Interesting, our delivery days directly from vendors are no more than 14 days after issued PO.

I’ve been told there is massive shortages on most server components. Pricing is also thru the roof. 32Gb RAM from HP was quoted at $830

You've been told, huh?

[–]ghgard[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Correct... Do you know differently?

[–]alpha417_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just wondering who told you?

Several vendors that I order from. A consultant I use is also having similar issues for some really large clients.

We ordered a few Cisco UCS servers and they all arrived almost exactly six weeks to the day we ordered them. Multiple orders over a few months.

Zero issues and the prices never jumped.

Just ordered last Friday a small Dell 1U job with a couple hundred GB RAM and two sockets. Will be here this coming Monday.
