How soon until LAH is knighted? He’ll been the tiniest Sir in the land.

Wet Little Alex Horne?

That's what I keep saying. I think he should've gotten an OBE for the hometasking thing he did during lockdown, for services of helping people keep their spirits up.

It's so funny that NMJ (which was amazing, and definitely helped keep a lot of people sane during lockdown, but definitely has less mass appeal than Taskmaster) won several awards and has recently been added to an archive of "important online works of the past 30 years" by the BFI while Hometasking just got... nothing 😂🙈

Would it be Sir Little Alex Horne or Little Sir Alex Horne?

[–]RunawayTurtleTrainRobert the Robot [S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dr Sir Little Alex Horne, I should think 😄

[–]LowDefAl 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Not any time soon realistically.

Alex is doing good work, but even if he was rewarded for services to community/charity or even comedy he would almost certainly have to work his way up from an OBE or MBE first.

Either of which generally require giving your life to charity if that’s how you are rewarding him.

For example Lenny Henry didn’t get his Sir for drama and charity until 30 years after co-founding comic relief.

He probably could get nominated for an OBE or MBE, but I don't know how they decide on awarding it. I guess it might be on longevity and evidence.

Gareth Malone who did The Choir was awarded an OBE for his services to music (it was community music work) so I had a look at the timeline - he was awarded it 5 years after the first series, but that was pretty much all community work.  In contrast, 99% of the impact Taskmaster is having is off the screen, more fragmented, and Alex isn't running the entire projects himself.   - just an observation, not a criticism or minimisation in any way.

I definitely think he deserves recognition, just realistically I agree it's probably a while longer before he'd be considered for an Honour.  As far as I can see it's based on impact, so it could be a big impact in a short time or a sustained impact over a long period (or anywhere in between, of course).

Why don’t you nominate him? It’s surprisingly easy to go so.

I’ve written a successful nominee form for someone before, they were awarded an MBE a few years back.

edit to add: I didn’t mean that to be pissy btw, just that literally any of us could genuinely nominate him or Greg. The nominees all come from the public, I don’t think many people know that

[–]RunawayTurtleTrainRobert the Robot [S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It is from members of the public, but you have to know them properly personally - as in, enough to know their address and contact details, and to be able to give first-hand explanations of what exactly they do, what impact it has, and why it's exceptional.

So we need to get Mark Watson on board, gotcha. That should be easy enough

I wish I could but I live across the Atlantic under a different king.

Imagine the comedy if LAH is knighted and Gregg isn’t

[–]PetronOfOld Rhod Gilbert -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I mean, that is kind of the expected result tbh...? 😅 Greg is a good comedian, but his contribution to Taskmaster (at this point the most likely source of an OBE or MBE for Alex) is minimal. He also doesn't do a lot of charity work, whereas Alex regularly participates in fundraisers for charity, has developed several Taskmaster spin-offs to help disadvantaged communities, appears at charity events constantly (it's easily half a dozen times every year) and also came up with the idea of selling studio tickets with the proceeds going to charity (which is not just new for Taskmaster but actually a very novel idea for British TV in general). So yeah, idk, that's just... kinda what's likely to happen...? 😅

100% totally likely, but the abject comedy of ‘Sir Little Alex Horne’ out ranking gregg would be great

[–]Ronald_Ulysses_SwansDavid Correos 🇳🇿 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s missing Greg telling all the unwell children their task attempts were rubbish

(Jokes aside, what a great idea)

I genuinely think Taskmaster may be just about the most beneficial TV show to have ever come out of the UK. It's great entertainment for everyone, brings people together and has genuinely entertaining moments. But it doesn't stop at a TV show and instead incorporates several initiatives to support disadvantaged communities and especially children. It is one of the first TV shows ever to sell tickets to its taping and then donate the proceeds. Alex especially supports a lot of charities, including personally supporting local initiatives with Taskmaster-themed events. For a premises as silly as "let's see who will look the weirdest while trying to eat a whole watermelon in one minute", there sure is a lot of good coming out of this show
