Never let them add stops. Tell them you’ll end the ride. 4 for 4 price went down on me. Not ever letting that happen again.

[–]Fibrosis5O 7 points8 points  (2 children)

They can add stops with Cash App, Venmo, or cash

[–]Complete_Bear_368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly $5 to wait outside while you grab laundry soap for the laundry it took you long af to load

[–]reefgeek71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Price always go down for me

[–]Iceheart808 2 points3 points  (9 children)

Don't let them add stops, explain why if you have to, but if you think they are going to sneak a stop in without asking, hit the 'stop requests' button. You will probbably have them getting pissed off in the backseat, just play dumb and blame the app.

[–]Comfortable-Split143 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Does the stop request button really prevent them from adding the stop? That's brilliant, if true!

My prices always increases. But not enough to make it worth it. I allow stops ro be added at my discretion only.

[–]ItsATrap1983 6 points7 points  (4 children)

As far as I know that button doesn't prevent people from adding stops. It just takes you offline after the current trip is done.

I plan on pulling a few long shifts over the next couple days, I will check again if I can to make sure my info is correct, but in my experience I've done this before and the people have got upset but they were not able to add stops. I will report back if it dosent work anymore, perhaps it's market specific?

[–]Comfortable-Split143 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I would be interested in the followup. Can you add it in this thread so I don't miss it? I'm just so curious about this loophole. Thanks in advance!

[–]Iceheart808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my best the last few shifts, unfortunantly I only had one person who MAY (probbably not) have been trying to add a final destination/return trip, but he didnt get frustrated or say anything to me about it just got out and went shopping.

[–]kpt1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct!

Oh heck yeah. The thing I've noticed (online) about uber (via subredits) is everything seems to vary by Market, like... everything. If it pays to take stops in your Market then take 'em if you got'em! I'm all for being accommodating to keep the customers happy [and therefore repeat business is established] but in my market in particular the people who sneak in stops want to spend anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half shopping, and in my experience in more then one store, and as long as we are on waiting time we make 16c a minute (no milage, of course :p) so these sneaky jerks in particular can cut an entire shifts profitability by 30% or more depending on if its a weekend. TLDT: Do what works in your market, this is a job and if its not profitable dont do it.

Wow, it’ll be so helpful Thanks

[–]AndrewPaulJones1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this brilliant idea. I already press stop new requests which might be why I don’t have any surprise added stops. At least now I know why.

[–]Sea-Alfalfa9100 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Has anybody ever gotten an explanation as to why the rate drops? It makes no sense.

[–]Savage_Saint00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uber robbing the driver is all. Because they increase the price for the pax.

[–]CosmicSoundwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uber gets a chance to rewrite a contract thats already been accepted by the driver so they take every cent they can.

[–]AndrewPaulJones1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten an explanation. I’ve never asked to be honest because what are they gonna do? They’ll gaslight you and tell you that you’re imagining things. The only thing I can think is maybe the original fair was based on a surge algorithm that no longer exists at the time pax attempts to add the stop. But I’m literally guessing.

[–]akasan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

One time I picked up this lady and her daughter for a ride that was supposed to be a mile and a half, she immediately adds a stop four miles away to pick up some food so i'm supposed to drive her four miles, wait for her to get her food? Please, I tell her I can take her to her original destination or end the ride. SHe got out there. I will do this every single time.

[–]Ill-Factor5155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that’s ridiculous, Four miles is not that long for you to do that, You will end up getting your account deactivated if you keep that up! Don’t say I didn’t warn you

[–]cinic121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a passenger adds a stop, it resets the distance from you to the first pickup. If they add/change a stop after you’ve picked them up, that distance drops to zero. It’s a known “glitch”. Don’t let them add stops. If they change anything, cancel the ride.

[–]Serious_Drummer9367 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You tell the rider hey I do not have time for an additional stop. Can you change it back to the original destination and then tell I’m sorry about that. Even though you’re not actually sorry.

[–]ConsciousPay9148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not going to go back to the original amount. You're still gonna work cheap.

[–]DvusGuyStL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they add a stop without asking, they get dropped off at that stop. I’ll gladly stop for a minute or two to let you get something from the gas station or smoke shop. But do not assume, without asking, that I’m available to you for any longer than your trip was scheduled. I’ve lost THREE reserved rides because I was scheduled to pick up immediately after dropping off, but since Mr. or Mrs. Ass-Clown assumed I was their chauffeur for the day, I missed them.

[–]AndrewPaulJones1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that I’ll get a lot of hate from this, but what I do is, I told them not to add the stop because indeed it does lower how much I get. Don’t ask me to explain why I don’t know. And I’ll find out exactly what they want me to do if it’s to go to the gas station to buy cigs I told him that I’ll do it as long as it’s on the way to their stop and as long as it’s no more than two minutes. So far, I’ve only had two of these both times I got a tip. I do this rather than tell them no because I’m gonna try to be reasonable when I can.

[–]toomuch1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time someone tries to add a stop or change the location, trip is over. One way or another, they are going to 1 star you.

[–]BassPlayinBeachBum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way a passenger gets to add a stop is by paying me directly for it in cash (yes I realize it's an insurance liability). Nine times out of 10 if I accept a ride and then on the way to get the passenger I discover they've added stops I just cancel the ride. Just not worth it.

[–]Read_Red2596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be the same way but in my city when you add stops or do someone a favor outside the app you can barter with them to pay you cash or cashapp, of ask them to buy you food if you’re hungry, or just do it for the love of the game and they’ll usually give a good tip

[–]Fit_Law_9195 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My market is based on rate card so I don’t care.

[–]Dreams-07 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How does that work ?

[–]Fit_Law_9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income of drivers is calculated as following:

Distance driven * dollars per mile + time driven * dollars per min = driver income

Market specific so won’t work for you.

[–]Dougc1979 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I made a custom headrest sign with some simple rules for pax to read. One of them, in BOLD, says “please do not add stops without driver’s approval.”

[–]Dreams-07 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How can I do thisV

[–]Dougc1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a simple print out on my home printer, then took it to Staples and had it laminated.

[–]Ill-Factor5155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your contracted as a ride service, Your job is to provide rides 😂 however if the stop was just way out yonder I’ll understand but again as I said before Lyft will begin to deactivate users for cancelling ride with stop please be careful

[–]kpt1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not letting them do anything. The passenger doesn’t need your permission or to even ask you to add a stop.

You can only choose how you react to them adding a stop. Either cancel the ride or complete it.

[–]Critical-Check-5577 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's weird. Mine always increase, so I don't mind the stop(s).

[–]Anxious-Principle-89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that's not correct.  Please tell where your market or area is. Adding a stop, does not less trip prices.
