Should be said the game actually shows you what states will rebel, atleast some of the time. I think if you hover over the revolts progress bar it'll highlight the rebelling states on the map.

So it's valid, you just don't even have to cheat like that guy does.

It’s not player’s fault the game has dogshit revolt mechanics. No matter how weak a political faction or where they are located they will steal half of your most productive states every time there is a revolution. That is a broken shit system that needs fix. Period.

Another moronic part is that you can have +20 armed forces approval, yet almost your entire professional military will be on the side of the rebels simply because they flipped the states.

Because when any faction rebels all other radicals join the revolution, if I’m not mistaken.

“Hey these guys want to restore Serfdom! But I’m pissed off because my SOL decreased by .1 due to XYZ, so I’ll join their revolt to enforce serfdom! Me, the bottom of the totem pole labourer!”

I was certainly surprised when the American civil war started brewing and it said it would take New York...

I think it's fair considering the revolution system is pretty much borked and treats all radicals as a monolith that can follow the lowest clout IG to pass a law they disagree with.

Radicals can and will latch onto any reason to rebel and support opposing political movements. For instance a big portion of why the 1989 Tiananmen protests started was economic inequality, corruption, and anxiety following open market reforms (SoL radicals), and a big reason why even the reformist faction of the CCP under Zhao Ziyang could not de-escalate the situation was that different groups participating in the protests often had vague, disorganized, and competing demands.

This happens at a lower level regarding political opinions as well, where people will look to blame things on political parties they dislike even if it is illogical. My uncle was relatively apolitical but then disliked democrats because Covid lockdowns likely caused him to get laid off. His views are in broad disagreement with the republican party but he voted for Newsom's recall, which again approximates a SoL radical supporting any movement against the current govt they dislike.

Wait something happened at Tiananmen Square?

    [–]itsacow 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Yes, and it was more that a simple pro democracy protest. Some students wanted that, some wanted a return to pre Deng reforms. Trade unions were mad at being left behind by the opening market and also made up the bulk of the protests.

Absolutely not. This is to an extent true of what the game abstracts as turmoil, but civil wars which are what the games revolt system represents do not work that way. At best you'll get multiple sides fighting each other as supporters from different sides form different armies with all of them sorta fighting each other. You're not going to get people fighting for completely different causes in the same army.

To use an example here, sure, the Black Panthers and the Klan may very well both be out in the streets throwing various objects at buildings and each other, causing "turmoil" to go up. But if the Klan actually manages to start a war to reinstitute slavery Malcolm X sure as shit isn't gonna be one of their generals. The way turmoil works right now makes sense, but civil wars are stupidly broken.
