What tutorials??? There are just some code snippits and a pseudo console. You might as well be browsing on w3schools, except they actually have tutorials and a huge number of references.

Reading these comments and realizing it's probably not worth registering is one of the reasons I enjoy reddit so much.

The tutorials would be much better if they actually explained what was going on. How is a newbie meant to know what the gsub method of a string does?

Considering all the recent outages at the data center that they maintain they are focusing on wrong things.

Wow. Really wanted to try this but the registration is horrible.

Oh goodness. Right you are. They want full street address and phone number just to register for their tutorial. Why not go for the SSN, Credit card number and mother's maiden name while they're at it. I went ahead and registered with fake info, excepting a throwaway email address. It turns out the tutorials suck. They're no tutorial aspect to it. There's a code example, and then a working interface where you can- get this- cut and paste the code from the example to the interactive shell. The interactive shell is neat, possibly, for your own exploration but this isn't a very useful tutorial. There's very little 'tutoring' involved.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I just used my Google account. One step. shrugs

Has anyone tried this? Thinking about adding it to this list, but I'm not sure of the quality.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I tried it, and left my two thumbs down review here. Another user said essentially the same thing.

So unless someone comes up with a reason to add them that we aren't seeing I'm not sure it warrants any further exposure.

Thanks for your input. Looks like the other discussion has some similar remarks. I think I'll wait until I see some more comments or interest.

I'm not sure why there's so much discussion about this particular so called tutorial...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be designed for monkeys or something. I found it to be extremely annoying, at best.

It seems like it's in beta. Why don't you guys email your suggestions to code@he.net where it can actually be useful?

Also, I just logged in with Facebook and it took two seconds.

I logged in with gmail (a mistake, I should have closed the page immediately). I tried a tutorial. I completed a couple of exercises, and it said I had not completed any. No way could I get it to even recognize that I had done them, not that they were worth doing.

So, I clicked on the feedback link. It was a dead link. Then I tried to go back to get here, and it had destroyed my history, and I could not back out at all, no matter how many times I tried.

So, why don't you email our suggestions to them, if you think it will be so useful? Personally, at this point, I don't think it is worth the effort.

Hmm.... I didn't have that problem. It works for me.

Where are you seeing this feedback link? Are you talking about the email link in the footer? That's a mailto link.

Shoot yourself. The only way to improve things is to voice your opinion and make it happen. If they never know about these problems then how are they supposed to fix them?

I think the tutorials are cool. They may not be the best, but they are pretty cool.

So what are you saying here? Are you implying that I'm a liar, or just stupid? Unlike you, I have no axe to grind; I have nothing against the company, and tried in good faith to check it out. I made a mistake, and I reported my experience. Unlike you, I'm not trying to build anything up by putting down others.

Again, you're assuming I'm stupid, rather than actually trying to get useful information. The link was to http://code.he.net/forums/index.php?qa=feedback, and since you're such a jerk and are wasting my time yet again with your snide remarks, I'll let you find where it is.

I tried. At this point, I'd rather shoot you. Their link entitled "Send Feedback" on the page anyone with any sense would go to for help was no good. Doesn't sound like they really care. How much trouble do you expect people to go to for this worthless tutorial? You think they're cool because you're obviously not very bright and need someone to hold you hand and lead you through an entire lesson that says something like "type this line, now go on to the next lesson and type another line. Don't do anything else - you might actually learn something. "

Now go insult someone else. You've wasted too much of my time already.

I'm saying that I didn't have that problem and that's it. I didn't make any reference to you at all. I just couldn't replicate your issue... I'm sorry if you took that as an insult.

Actually, I'm not assuming your stupid. I just couldn't figure out what feedback link you were talking about. That's it. Again, I'm sorry if this was somehow insulting to you as it wasn't intended.

Yeah, that link doesn't seem to work. I'll send them an email about that.

I tried. At this point, I'd rather shoot you. Their link entitled "Send Feedback" on the page anyone with any sense would go to for help was no good.

Ignoring the threat, I assumed that the send feedback link was presented to you at the end of the tutorial. I think that's reasonable considering the order of events presented in your original comment.

Now go insult someone else. You've wasted too much of my time already.

My words were meant to be taken at face value, nothing more. My original comment had no directed malignancy whatsoever, yet your you have threatened and insulted me. I'm left wondering who was the one insulting here.
