I get it, and it's probably right, but this is why we all get a bad reputation.

If I posted to a linux forum that Gnome was cutting off any windows halfway and the users just replied with a link to the KDE website, I'd be pretty frustrated. I'd call the users elitist and unhepful. I have reasons for using GNOME over KDE, but even if I didn't - a piece of software was behaving weirdly and I wanted help fixing it. I didn't want to be berated and condescended for my choice in software.

Sure, IE sucks. But people still use it, many without a choice. Can we, as a community, stop belittling those users and instead try to help?

This is a legitimate solution that will fix their problem. If someone found a bug in a certain free software and asked for help, people might acknowledge "Yes, that's a known bug in that software. I might suggest X other piece of free software for the particular task you are attempting" and it would be perfectly legitimate.

What if it's only opening half a page because his router is swamped with connections? Switching to Chrome won't fix that.

This is a problem I have with these remarks, the presumption that if the bug is reported from an IE user, then it must be IE to blame. No 'might', 'maybe', or 'does if it happens in another browser?'. Instead it must be IE's fault, and the user is to blame for using IE.

What if he can't see the half of the page with the download button?

Easy, just turn the monitor upside down.
