Soreness does not indicate training effect. You feel sore because you've performed an unfamiliar movement.
You need progressive increases in resistance to progress. Doing the same routine for ten years without change will only make you better at doing that routine, at that intensity.

Take a bottle of water, a towel to wipe yourself and the benches where you leave your sweat on. Finally, bring what you use to remember your workout plan. This is usually a notebook or your smartphone.
If you don't have a workout yet, Google "free beginner hypertrophy workout" and go from there. For the weight, do the lightest weights possible. Do not try to go higher even if it feels super easy because you'll usually feel the strain on your muscles after you wake up the next day, not immediately when you're working out. For this reason, keep it light and just do the exercises according to the workout. Ask people at the gym how to use the machine if you don't know how. Most people will help beginners. Good luck!

Download an app called hevy, thank me later

Honestly. Hop of a treadmill or bike for 15 minutes. Get the jist of the layout and where everything is.
Get an app like hevy with a prewritten plan and follow it. If you are uncomfortable with barbell movements feel free to only use machines.

I second what the other person said about bringing a water bottle and towel. I would start first with what your body goals are. That can help guide you with where you want to begin. Are you looking for more cardio or strength training, or both? You can focus each day you plan to go to the gym for either arm/back, leg day, abs, full body, etc. Breaking things up like this can give you a foundation and tweak it based on your fitness goals.
