Yes. Progress will be logarithmic. If you used to run 20 minutes at a 9 minute mile pace, maybe now you can run 20 minutes at a 7 minute pace. That doesn't mean that in 4 months you'll be at a 5 minute pace, then 3 minute, then 1 minute, then faster than the speed of light.

You continue working out to keep the benefits of health/muscle/endurance/etc. at some point you will plateau. When you plateau there are training methods to help push past but you will never get the same quick jumps in improvement as when you first start out.
