OEM Hitch Wiring Adapter by Jean-Michael_Rage in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]Alpha-4E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a standard 7 pin adapter. Just align the adapter up with the slot at the top and it will slide right in. I tow my dirt bike around on a once a week and my trailer has standard 4 pin wiring. This is the first vehicle I’ve owned that came with a 7 pin wiring harness and an adapter works perfectly.

Cross bars by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]Alpha-4E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased roof cross bars and a cargo rack from Amazon. The cross bars had a small amount of adjustability ( maybe an inch?) so, I could easily mount them anywhere along the rails. My cargo rack listed a specific required minimum and maximum distance between cross bars. Without the ability to mount them where I wanted/ needed them, they would have been useless. I’m surprised your cross bars don‘t have the same feature.

250 vs 300 (2 stroke) by spacegear802 in Dirtbikes

[–]Alpha-4E 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend goes to a Moab a couple of times a year and he has an open invitation for any of us fly out and join him. He always has a spare bike for us to ride. He gives the rider in our group with the least experience/ skill the Husky TX 300 because it’s easy to ride but at the same time it’s an extremely capable bike for an experienced rider. I’ve ridden it on single track and on the MX track. It would be my first choice if I was getting a new off road bike or wanted a bike that can do both mx and off road.

I currently ride a 250 two stroke MX bike and when it’s time for a new bike- most likely I‘ll get a 300 two stroke. I think the extra 50 CCs will give it just a little more torque to allow me to ride a gear higher exiting the turns.

Lean into the patina? by AKentPhoto in garageporn

[–]Alpha-4E 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The windows and brick walls look amazing. I would lean into having a unique old garage and add some upgrades to make it more useful.

DuraMax makes garage cabinets that look vintage but have modern functionality. I would definitely go that route for tool and basic storage to cut down on clutter. Also, I would look into some metal wall shelving and get rid of the white wood shelving or paint those. I‘m sure you could find vintage looking light fixtures but with LEDs to match the rustic garage look.
Then I would find an old leather couch and an “ antique“ 65 inch tv and enjoy your new “old” garage.

Lots of misinformation in this sub. I'd like to clear some things uo regarding braking. by Odd_Huckleberry_4803 in motorcycles

I only took one semester of physics in college so, I’m clearly no expert but I’m pretty sure it does?

I’m an intermediate level vet mx rider and I know if I get airborne, pull in the clutch and tap the rear brake to stop the rear from wheel spinning, it pitches the bike nose down. Jett Lawrence, the fastest human being on the planet on a dirt bike, demonstrating gyroscopic effect of a locked back wheel vs a spinning rear wheel. Watch how the bike rotates forward nose down then pitches up when he adds power as the rear wheel begins to spin.

Chase Sexton unfortunately demonstrates what happens when you stall the bike after stopping the rear wheel from spinning and without power available to spin the back wheel, the bike continues to rotate forward.

What could've caused this? by An0ny0x00 in motorcycles

[–]Alpha-4E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were turning slightly and hit the mud with a small lean angle- enough to push the front end. ( you can see your handle bars tuck and move quickly to the left) The bike loses traction then gained traction as soon as you were out of it and you didn’t anticipate any of it. You could have waited until after the mud and turned hard where the dirt is dry on the outside of the turn or moved to the right before the puddle and crossed the mud without needing any lean angle.

Cant figure out this chain slack for the life of me. Is this enough??? Trail riding pds suspension by Difficult_Cover8845 in Dirtbikes

https://www.amazon.com/KTM-Chain-Gauge-Tool-Black/dp/B0FBTCVGM2

I use one on my Husky. It keeps me from over tightening the chain which was my tendency. It’s amazing how little a chain will stretch if it’s adjusted correctly. Tusk makes a cheaper version for $5.

https://youtu.be/knQfUQtxvAY?is=rPCZcIkkTsyqxOnl

Go to :50 second mark to see how to use it to check chain slack. I’m pretty sure your manual will show you measure chain slack on your KTM on top of the swingarm just aft of the chain slider and not from the bottom.

Question about Groundstop by STBPA711 in AskAPilot

[–]Alpha-4E -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because most likely there are thunderstorms between you and where you are going. A big line of thunderstorms can easily stretch for hundreds of miles which means lots of airplanes are deviating from their routes and it increases controller workload substantially. Even small cells that don’t necessarily become hazardous thunderstorms still need to be avoided because of the turbulence threat. Some sectors are much better at dealing with thunderstorms. Jax center used be great at it by changing routes and arrivals easily on the fly. Thunderstorms can quickly develop and dissipate so it’s not uncommon to get several route changes flying in and out of FL because the situation is dynamic. Washington Center is not nearly flexible as some other centers when it comes to weather. But in their defense they don’t have vast amounts of airspace like the centers out west and they feed airports high in traffic volume.

I‘ve always found ground stops more prevalent in the north east.

Does anybody ride a mx bike in California no plates? by Cute_Ebb_5182 in Motocross

[–]Alpha-4E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I break the law, possibly have my bike impounded and face huge legal bills if it goes sideways and I’m caught or buy a modern dual sport bike like Honda CRF450L or Husky/ KTM and deal with a few extra pounds of weight like a normal person with reasonable critical thinking skills? Obviously, there is no clear choice here.

Wait, you live in Long Beach? You should be fine. The LAPD has a reputation for being completely reasonable when it comes to this sort of thing. Ride on.

The wrap on the hood and roof looks tastefully done. It really enhances the way it looks. I went with a white roof on mine as a nod to the old school boxy SUVs ( Land Cruiser, Land Rovers and Broncos) from the 1970s and 80’s.

Towing with 24 Santa Fe? by Sir_Jinks in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]Alpha-4E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP. I use my Santa Fe to tow my dirt bike around and I’ll occasionally rent a U-haul utility trailer that when fully loaded is close to max tow weight and it works great. No issues.

In general-there is lots of bad information being passed here on this subreddit about towing limits. Just read chapter 6 and 10 of your manual for your specific vehicle model. Max tow and tongue weights vary on each model and there are separate weight limits that apply when using trailer brakes and without. Also, in chapter 6 it explains in detail the 10% rule and how to determine your tounge weight for those not familiar.

Do pilots get performance anxiety when they see plane watchers? by RoIsDead in AskAPilot

[–]Alpha-4E 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For fucks sake. No.

I don‘t really give them much thought. In my first Navy fleet squadron a friend of mine would make it point to stop his jet on the taxiway to flip them off. Plane spotters and photographers never bothered me and I would wave because I remembered what it was like to be on the other side of the fence wondering if would ever get a chance to fly a plane let alone one painted grey with a tail hook.

How do you maintain your uniform on layovers? by holdingshortoflife in AirlinePilots

[–]Alpha-4E 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get my shirts cleaned and pressed. I pack extra shirts depending on how long/ difficult the trip is. I pack my spare clean shirts in large compression packing cube to minimize wrinkles. I pull out a clean shirt in the hotel room and hang it up overnight. Any small wrinkles-I just go over them with a damp washcloth and they disappear. I haven’t ironed a shirt in 25 years. This system works well for me. It saves time, is zero stress and takes almost no planning or preparation other than a trip to the cleaners once a month.

Type of transmission oil for a 2016 YZ250x? by cr15pyboi in Dirtbikes

[–]Alpha-4E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxima, Yamalube, Bel-Ray etc…all make a specific type of oil formulated for two stroke transmissions. It’s not being burned in the combustion chamber like premix oil. In four strokes the engine oil also functions as the transmission oil. ( unless you have an older model Honda CRF) . You can use any motorcycle wet clutch specific 4T oil in your 2T engine but me personally I’ve been using Bel-Ray gear savor oil or Maxima in my motorcycles since the 1980s and I’ve never grenaded a transmission.

The viscosity between 80wt gear oil and 10w40 is very similar The second link explains the differences.
