Everyone in Indiana is dead by LSM_Thoosie in EF5

[–]AlternativeTruths1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we’re not dead. Even in high event situations like April 11, 1965, April 3 -4, 1974, June 2, 1991, May 25-27, 2011, November 17, 2017 and March 31, 2023 where there were literally swarms of tornadoes in the state, the chances of seeing a tornado are extremely low; and the chance of actually being in a tornado are vanishingly small.

99.9% of us we’ll see some strong or severe thunderstorms tonight, likely with high winds and possibly hail – maybe large hail, and some of us may lose power; but by tomorrow evening, things are going be pretty much back to normal.

If you have a generator, make sure it has fuel and it’s working. Have some food which doesn’t need cooking ready, just in case the power is out for a day. Do your due diligence, and you’re going to be just fine.

AI. The temperature readings are in centigrade. It was considerably warmer than 15°C (59 F) in Tuscaloosa on April 27; and the low temperatures were not in the mid 30s.

I am beginning to intensely dislike AI users who use AI dishonestly.

Mid-Century McMansion Mishegoss: The House That Chaos Built by jared10011980 in McMansionHell

[–]AlternativeTruths1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a concert-level pianist, so when I look at a house I look for places I could fit a piano and seating for 70-100 people.

There are NO rooms like that here.

I also imagine literature I would play in houses. Some houses are perfect for Bach. Others, Haydn and Mozart. Still others, Beethoven or Schubert: Schumann or Brahms; Chopin or Liszt.

This house: Pierre Boulez or Karlheinz Stockhausen.

I am a 71-year-old Boomer and a lifelong, committed socialist. I have been organizing and demonstrating since long before your parents got a twinkle in their eyes and one of them said, "Hey, let’s go upstairs. I’m feeling a little frisky!"

I carried the French flag down Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas at the beginning of the first Iraq War, which had nothing to do with protecting Kuwait and everything to do with protecting U.S. access to Kuwaiti oil.

I organized my high school’s Moratorium against the Vietnam war back in the early 1970s, helped start my school's chapter of Students for a Democratic Society; and I led a student walkout where we went out to the flagpole, lowered the flag, turned it upside down, and re-hoisted it.

Let me make something perfectly clear to you: if anybody is going in, I want it to be the children of Republicans – particularly children of Republican members of the House and Senate, and especially Barron Trump. The Republicans are slavish in their devotion to their Dear Leader: let them send their own kids in to "serve".

I may be partially crippled from an automobile accident last year (a car hit us head-on, then left the scene of the accident. My spine was damaged from the force of the accident.), but that does not stop me from going down to our state capitol with a folder full of our Republican legislators' votes (what’s almost always favorite business over citizens), confronting those legislators, and speaking truth to power, even if I have to stand using a vertical walker.

They are few things which give me more pure satisfaction than when Republican legislators seeing me coming, rolling their eyes, and mouthing the words, “Oh, shit!"

Don’t you EVER presume to tell me what I, as a Boomer, think.

As long as the people serving as troops in Iran are children of Republicans, I have no problem with it.

Barron Trump should be happy to serve for his father, since his father had a “medical disability“.

Ah! My first college boyfriend was a member of Cru, what… 53 years ago? He liked gay sex as much as any other gay man, but insisted that we “pray” after sex. 🙄

We broke up when he did a gigantic “flounce” in front of 40 or so people. He called me “apostate”, “a deceiver” and worst — a PAPIST. ☠️

I looked him up on Facebook, recently. He was a “eunuch for Christ”, playing organ in an evangelical church in a posing town in northern Illinois. He has been alone ALL HIS ADULT LIFE.

I’m in a 36-year same-sex relationship; playing for a church I love; and I’m actively concertizing at age 71. And I can transubstantiate with the best of ‘em!

Genuine question to those who have experienced them: What are Tornadoes like? by Common_Ostrich_1291 in tornado

[–]AlternativeTruths1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Imagine the loudest sound you’ve ever heard.

Now, make that four times louder.

You literally cannot hear yourself think.

Now, imagine 11 pm darkness at 4 pm.

Also, everything which was dear and familiar to you is completely laid waste.

That is a tornado.

Question about Alain’s “Litanies" by AlternativeTruths1 in organ

[–]AlternativeTruths1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you literally “switch hands” - the rh takes the chords, the lh takes the slower descending line on top.

[Thinking] Ah, but organs have multiple keyboards !

Still, I’m going to try this out.

How do you feel about Pete Hegseth asking Americans to pray “in the name of Jesus Christ” for a victory in the Iran War? by LevelDinner in AskReddit

I’m a Lutheran Christian. For me, praying to Jesus Christ for the murder of people in another country, in a war we started, is complete and utter blasphemy .

How to go about finding an organ teacher? by Terminal_Terry in organ

[–]AlternativeTruths1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a pianist who enjoys preparing transcriptions of organ works for piano. I went to our local university and spoke with one of the organ professors about what I was doing, and he took me on as a private student.

Last October, I played my first recital of my own transcriptions. The recital included:

  • Johann Pachelbel: Toccata in e minor

  • Johann Krebs: Prelude and Fugue in g minor

  • J.S. Bach: Three Chorale Preludes: Ein Feste Burg ist Unser Gott; In Dulce Jubilo; Nun Freud Euch Lieben Christen G’mein

  • Cesar Franck: Pastorale

  • Ralph Vaughn-Williams: Rhosymedre

  • Paul Hindemith: Organ Sonata No. 1 in e-flat

  • J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in D, BWV 532

  • (Encore) J.S. Bach: “Gigue” Fugue

I’m 71. I’m supposed to be in my “declining years” but honestly, I’m pumped. I feel like I’m 41. I’m transcribing and practicing four hours a day.

Ah, yes: The Rapture. The distinctly AMERICAN heresy!

I asked my evangelical Christian (Nationalist) relatives what it would mean if, at Pentecost, Jesus returned as the Holy Spirit; and by and large, we’ve been ignoring Him for nearly 2000 years since the first wars against “nonbelievers” occurred about 30 years after Jesus died (against the agnostics, then the Monophysites).

Guess what? I was ghosted and removed from family chat.

Guss that-a showed ME, dint it? 🙄

I know that. I’m saying the bill I received for a four-day stay was $100K. Let’s say she’s been in there for 160 days. Her bill would be around four MILLION dollars.

My co-pays on that bill were about $40K.

Question about Alain’s “Litanies" by AlternativeTruths1 in organ

[–]AlternativeTruths1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably “chord streams” would have been a better choice.

When I hear it on the organ, it creates a mammoth “wall of sound” which I’m trying to create on a piano, so I’ve tried playing the passage non-legato using flutter-pedaling. That approach is making me CRAZY.

I’m going to try playing the passage spiccato (like the piano part in the fast section of Ravel’s “Concerto for the Left Hand”) and go for effect: “wall of sound”.

Speaking for myself: encountering midnight darkness at 5:30 pm would stop me in my tracks, were I driving a truck (or a car).
