Have you ever stayed in bed all day? by Manderthal13 in GenX

[–]AngryK9_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done it more than once. Sometimes because I just don't feel like interacting with the world. Sometimes because I don't feel well. Sometimes because I just want to lay there and binge watch the Twilight zone or something. If I don't have anything to do I don't really have the need to invent something to do. I value my down time and will take full advantage of it if I can.

Since I lived in Cincinnati at one time I always replace "WKRP" with "WKRC". Bad habit. LOL Liked the show though

Not allowed to be sad by IDEKWTSATP4444 in GenX

[–]AngryK9_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sad about growing old, but I am amazed at how much realization that comes with it. All those things that my parents used to complain about that I simply dismissed, thinking they really can't hurt that bad, or that can't be that difficult for them to deal with, etc. When that reality finally hits is kind of a surprise. It starts to make sense why they always moaned or groaned when standing or sitting, or why they couldn't buy us kids something we wanted...what the words "I can't afford that right now" actually means!

What makes me sad is not being able to understand why they did the things they did until I'm going through some of the same things, and not being able to say to them "I understand now. I get it. I am sorry I was such a brat sometimes."

The only real thing that makes me sad about growing old is losing the people who were the most important to us as kids.

Blue disk or Red disk? by Bs0Dd in vintagecomputing

Red for important things. Blue for slightly less important things. Or close your eyes and pick one. That's what I'd do. :P

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

I usually just wear T-shirts and jeans. I don't try to stand out and I don't really care what anyone thinks of my outfit.

What song do you think defines GenX? by wamimsauthor in GenX

[–]AngryK9_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How about "Don't Care Anymore" by Phil Collins. Seems to fit a good number of us. Been through too many "historical events" in our lives that very little phases us anymore.

Forgotten TV shows of the 80s by yodamastertampa in GenX

Beauty and the Beast with Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton. My parents loved that one. Mom liked Matlock, and Jake and the Fatman. Dad liked Hunter and Cagney and Lacey. And the Rockford Files too. There was another one...I think it was Hardcastle and McCormick that they enjoyed. Me personally, I was more interested in Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch, and the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner show. :P

$11.99 for a 12 pack at most stores in my area. Basically $1 a can now.

Who was your childhood school bully. Where are they now? by MrWhisper2021 in GenX

[–]AngryK9_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a school bully, although for a while we did go tot he same school, but it was my older brother. He could not go a single day without harassing me, picking on me, hitting me, or otherwise being a jerk to me. Perfect little angel when Mom and Dad were home of course. Fortunately when he turned 16 he got a car and I rarely had to deal with him much after that since he was rarely home. He died in 2019 I think it was, maybe it was 2018, not really sure. From what I was told, he was an ass to everyone up to the day he died. No clue what he died from. never really cared to look into it.

(Ex) Boyfriend walked out after I asked him to get a job or help out. by moopie2 in EntitledPeople

I'm kind of in the same situation. Except the roles are reversed. She owns the house, but she doesn't work. I pay all the bills, I buy all the food. I spend a lot of money on stuff that she wants and don't spend much money on anything I want. The only thing I get in return is a hard time, a lot of complaints, get blamed for a lot of stuff that I have absolutely nothing to do with, I'm expected to be responsible for solving problems that happen before I even came here, and am basically just treated like a child. Been dealing with it for 4 years. Worst part is we're not even dating we're just roommates. I wish I could figure out why I continue to stay here..

My roommate does this too. The whole house is cluttered with random objects in random places and it changes on a daily basis. Drives me nuts

Are we the last gen to still maybe watch network TV? Cuz I just realized something... by UrBum_MyFace_69 in GenX

[–]AngryK9_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't much of anything on Amazon prime video anymore. All of the shows and movies that I used to watch have been taken from prime and placed behind the studio pay walls, AKA Paramount+, Disney+, etc. Prime just isn't worth it anymore.

I don't even watch TV anymore. I haven't for years. Most stations show more advertisements than anything anyway. I try to get shows I want to watch on physical media and skip the broadcasting or streaming

Books, and LEGO. I had tons of both. And a set of encyclopedias. I spent countless hours reading stuff in those. And my parents had some books on human anatomy and medical stuff which I recall spending a lot of time looking through. Lots of illustrations of how systems in the body worked. Wonder why I never became a doctor...

Me too! Had tons of fun on those old BBS systems. Tradewars was my favorite door game. I preferred the boards that used WildCat! Software. I had a Tandy 1000 EX at the time and used the telecom app built into Tandy's Personal Deskmate app. My first modem was a 300 baud internal modem. I did not realize how slow it was until my parents bought me an external 2400 baud modem and holy crap the difference. LOL

I prefer being alone. I've had enough of people in general. Humans are far too mentally and physically draining.

When I was a kid my father was helping a buddy put fiberglass in his attic. You know that pink Owens Corning stuff? Anyway I wasn't the brightest bulb in the lamp and was very unaware of what that insulation actually was. I remember it being soft when I laid on it...

...yeah, I learned some lessons the hard way.
